This tour covers five top ranking sightseeing activities in Sri Lanka that includes Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Minneriya National Park, Dambulla Cave temple and Kandy Temple. In addition to these, you will also visit a Spice garden, Gem Lapidary and wood carving center.
Pick up from centrally located hotels in Colombo, Negombo or Mount Lavinia.
6:00: You will be picked up from your hotel in Colombo, Negombo or Mount Lavinia and driven to Sigiriya (approx. 4 hours drive). On arrival, you will climb the rock fortress. 10:00- 12:00: Visit Sigiriya Rock fortress that is famous for its toadstool of golden-hued granite, protruding into the searing blue sky from a hot, flat wilderness of scrubland, which is transformed in the rainy season to a water garden. In the 5th century King Kashyapa domesticated the Lions Rock, by building a palace atop its summit. Sigiriya commemorates some of the turbulence of Sri Lanka’s history.
Post lunch, you will be able to check in to your hotel and get ready for the evening game drive at Minneriya National Park. 14:30: You will be driven to Habarana where you will start your game drive. 15:00- 1800: Explore Minneriya National Park by jeep. The extent of the Minneriya National Park is about 8,889 hectares. Dry zone plant and animal species are common and elephants are in plenty.
7:30: After breakfast, you will be driven to visit Dambulla Cave temples ( 30 minutes drive). 8:00 - 9:45 Visit Dambulla Cave temple. This was built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. and it is a World Heritage Site. It is the most impressive of Sri Lanka's cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceilings, is the largest area of paintings found in the world.
10:00: Leave Dambulla and proceed to Matale where you will be able to visit a Spice Garden. 11:00 -12:00: Free guided tour in the spice garden. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated exports and are used for medicines and cosmetics as well as to flavour foods. We will sample scents and flavours such as cinnamon, ginger, pepper, vanilla and cardamom.
14:30- 15:30: Visit wood carving center and Gem Lapidary.
16:00 - 17:30: Visit Kandy Temple. Located in Kandy, long a center of the Buddhist faith, the stunning 17th-century Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is believed to house the left upper canine tooth of the Lord Buddha himself. This precious relic attracts white-clad pilgrims, bearing lotus blossoms and frangipani, every day.
18:00: Leave Kandy and proceed to Colombo (approx. 3 hours & 30 minutes drive). 21:30: You will be dropped at your hotel.
