The journey begins with a drive across the spectacular new Yangon-Dala Bridge by enjoying a panoramic 360-degree view of the Yangon River, and the Shwedagon Pagoda skyline. Heading to Twante, this sleepy village has retained much of its traditional charm and it is surrounded by sprawling rice fields and farmland. Here we experience rural life and visit a traditional pottery workshop at Oh-Bo Pottery Quarter, where methods have remained the same for generations. We can meet some of the talented artisans and learn first-hand how they make their wares.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we head to one of the main reasons why Twante is just a destination in its own right. The auspicious name of Shwe San Daw (“Golden Hair Relic”) shares its name with several other pagodas across Myanmar all said to contain hairs of the Buddha, yet the Twante version is one of the lesser-known ones. With a design similar to that of Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon, the 75-metre high the Shwe San Daw Pagoda has taken a more subdued on-the-background position for Buddhist worshippers.
We wrap up the day with a relaxing drive along the Twante Canal, dug during the British colonial era to link Yangon, observe the vibrant river life, colorful wooden boats transporting local produce. We then return to Yangon through idyllic villages, alongside paddy fields and river landscapes. Transfer back to your hotel.
