Experience Java's cultural landscape from a bicycle saddle on this half-day cycling adventure. Go beyond tourist buses into authentic rural Java, where UNESCO Prambanan Temple rises from verdant rice fields.
While Prambanan is known for its 9th-century Hindu temples, the surrounding area offers rural charm. Lush rice paddies, cornfields, and tobacco plantations paint the landscape, while traditional wooden houses add authenticity. Life moves at a slower pace, with agriculture and handicraft forming the local economy's backbone.
Beginning at Opak River Bridge near Sambisari Temple, cycle through rice farming areas with stops at a traditional market and small industries. Photo stop at Plaosan Temple before concluding at iconic Prambanan.
This tour maintains a relaxed pace with frequent stops for photography and cultural explanations, accessible for basic fitness levels.

We include a morning pick-up from your hotel in Yogyakarta, and a short drive will bring you to the main starting point of this great, half-day cycling experience. During a short safety briefing, your bicycle will be set for a comfortable 2.5-hour ride through the local landscape, following paths and roads where cars not always can reach. Cycling to explore is the name of the game here. The Prambanan Temple and its surroundings, Indonesia’s largest, and one of the most beautiful Hindu temple complexes in Indonesia are the star attractions. Built in the 9th century, today, after extensive restoration projects, only the three main venerable sanctuaries, and three of the slightly smaller complexes, are still standing.
With plenty of stops, your guide will tell you not only about the importance of the temple but also highlight what makes this region so unforgettable. You’ll gain a deep respect and understanding for farmers and local villagers on how they’re making a living by cultivating and traditionally irrigating the land, planting, tending and harvesting, often only done by hand. Children often play around the lands where the parents are tending to their crop that offers pleasant sceneries while you cycle around. A stop at the Boko Temple is included, complemented with amazing views await once you reach the top of the hill where coconut trees, rice paddy fields and the green lands dominate the landscape up to the horizon. From the moment you sit comfortably on your bike saddle until we reach the final stop where you will be brought back to your hotel, we guarantee a slightly different perspective of seeing this Hindu marvel and its scenery when touring around by car.
