This tour will take you to some of the most incredible sites in the north of Vietnam. This is a wild and beautiful region of limestone peaks, black granite needles (the locals call them “stone forests”), vertiginous canyons and limitless panoramas. You will also discover the culture of the local Black H’mong. The men are remarkably elegant, dressed in black, with a beret, a souvenir of their great allies the French. Also on the itinerary is the sprawling Ba Be Lake in Ba Be National Park where you can enjoy the rich natural surroundings and meet the local Tay communities.

Your guide will collect you from your hotel in Hanoi at 8am, beginning your journey to the stunning mountains of Ha Giang by travelling along Road No.2, where you will slowly see the scenery around you change from bustling metropolis to rolling countryside. Not far out of Hanoi, you will stop in Duong Lam Ancient Village, a site rich in history and culture, containing such sites as Mong Phu Temple and Mia Pagoda with its 287 statues and centuries old houses. Here we will enjoy a taste of rural life as we are served a home-cooked local meal for lunch, before continuing along the winding river from Duong Lam deep into the mountains of Ha Giang, marvelling at the spectacular views along the way. Once in Ha Giang City, we will check in to our local homestay and enjoy a home-cooked dinner.
Begin your journey to Dong Van across a series of long passes. You have lunch before heading to the majestic King of the H’mong’s Palace, a fortress built by a local chief, Vuong Chin Duc, who was allied with the French against the Viet Minh. The palace, built in the early 1900s was designed in the ancient Chinese architectural style of the Man Qing era. After continuing your journey, you arrive at Hoa Cuong Hotel around 17:00 for dinner. Overnight in a hotel.
Visit to the market of Dong Van, where the locals shop before returning to their mountain hamlets. You will then climb a pass up to the French Fortress of Pu Lo. The trek 7 km to Thien Huong village village, this is a small village located in the valley adjacent to the border with China. Then geting back to Dong Van for lunch and the road climbs 10 km up to the top of the Ma Pi Leng Pass, through a unique landscape of craggy limestone peaks and gaping valleys. You will descend into Meo Vac Valley to the village of Bao Lac, where we have diner and spend the night.
Take the mountain road from Bao Lac to Cao Bang. En route to Cao Bang, we will share our secret route with you, a gorgeous small road snaking through the mountains to the Tay village of Cho Ra and then down to Ba Be National Park. After have lunch in local restaurant we will then visit Hua Ma cave before continue travel to Tay village of Coc Toc, where you will be welcomed by friendly Tay family in their traditional stilt house. Enjoy a superb dinner on the river terrace.
After breakfast, go on foot to Bo Lu Quay where you take a boat trip around Ba Be Lake. As you float down the Nang River, you can take in the scenery of the surrounding karsts. The boat come to Puong Cave where you can explore the stalactites and stalagmites which are a result of the erosion of the river on the karst as well as looking out for the bat colony several thousand strong. After your exploration of the lake, you rest on the drive back to Hanoi. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the way before arriving back in Hanoi at about 17:30.
