Ha Giang is Vietnam’s northern-most province. The mysterious landscape along the Chinese border – a mythical combination of conical limestone peaks and deep, craterous valleys – is probably the most striking in the country. Once considered the last frontier for adventurous travel in Vietnam, Ha Giang gained an almost legendary status among independent travelers.
08:30: Meet your easy rider, prepare with knee/elbow pads and hop on the motorbike! Begin by heading towards Bac Sum Pass, up to Heaven Gate, where you can take in the beautiful scenery of the twin mountains and Tam Son town. We stop for lunch in Yen Minh Town, then drive towards Dong Van, through the picturesque Chin Khoanh Pass. You’ll be wowed by the surrounding geo-heritage site called Dong Van Karst. The landscape is composed of endless rice terraces, thousands of limestone rocks and awe-inspiring views. This is also where you’ll get the first glimpse into the life of the local hill tribe people as they work on the surrounding land. Next, visit Hmong King’s Palace, the one-hundred-year-old palace of Vuong Chinh Duc – the King of H’mong people. Arrive at family-owned hotel in Dong Van early in the evening. Here, you’ll enjoy a local Vietnamese dinner and perhaps even some karaoke with the local families after a long day of riding and sightseeing.
Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the northeastern province of Ha Giang, a mountainous province located in the far north of Viet Nam. Most of its surface is limestone (about 60%). Its landscape is spectacular and unique having high mountains and deep canyons. The highest peak is Mieu Vac Mount (1971m) while Tu San is the deepest Canyon (700-800 m deep).
After breakfast, we leave Dong Van Town to make our way to the “King” of mountain passes in Vietnam – the Ma Pi Leng Pass with an altitude of 2,000m at its peak! After driving through the pass and stopping occasionally to soak in the best views and snap photos, you’ll have the opportunity to trek the Sky Path, which offers a 360° panorama of Ma Pi Leng Pass. While most only get to see the Nho Que River from the mountain pass, ! Paddling along the turquoise waters while being awed by the mountains above will be unforgettable. We’ll continue to drive through the rustic villages of Meo Vac, Mau Due and Lung Ho, where lunch is served. In the afternoon, we pass through the epic mountains to Du Gia rural homestay, located in the middle of green rice fields. Here, you’ll enjoy a massive, homecooked dinner with your host family and new friends. Don’t forget to try the “Happy Water” – which is what the Vietnamese affectionately call rice wine.
The Ma Pi Leng pass is the most impressive mountain pass in Vietnam at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is located between Dong Van and Meo Vac, two cities in the far north of Vietnam in Ha Giang province, close to the border with China. It is the most amazing mountain road in all of Vietnam.
Du Gia is a municipality in Yen Minh District in Ha Giang Province. It is located between the cities of Ha Giang and Meo Vac, both approximately 70 kilometers away. There is also a second route from Ha Giang which is 110 kilometers. There are no bus connections with the town, so you can only get there by motorcycle or car with a driver. The roads are of poor quality, but you will be rewarded with beautiful landscapes and local villages of ethnic hill tribes. The road from Meo Vac in particular is spectacular.
Lung Tam is known as a long-standing traditional craft village of brocade weaving by the Hmong on Dong Van plateau, Ha Giang province. Besides brocade products that are favored by both domestic and foreign visitors, the unique feature in the weaving process of Lung Tam village is an attraction for visitors in Quan Ba district.
Du Gia is an unknown quiet village in Ha Giang. This place is visited almost exclusively by travelers who do the Ha Giang loop in 5 days or more. The best thing about this place is the peaceful and unspoiled beauty with its majestic natural landscape of mountains and rice paddies around it. In addition, the local people here are exceptionally hospitable and friendly.
