    Uplistsiche Cave Town

    Afterwards drive to Uplistskhe cave town. Uplistsikhe is the first settled area mentioned in manuscripts dating from 2nd millennium BC and translates in English as “the fortress of God”. The town was an important point on the trade route linking Byzantium, India and China. Nowadays archaeological excavations uncovered several layers dating from Early Iron Age to the late Middle Ages.
