    The Black Gate

    An addition to the castle, the Back Gate was built in 1247 and has a history suitably grim given its name!

    Roman Fort (Pons Aelius) Foundations

    The current Norman Castle is pretty much built next to and on the old Roman castle but we can still see some of the Roman foundations and ruins here... fitting given Hadrians Wall famously runs through Newcastle.

    One of 3 cathedrals in Newcastle (many would say 4 if we include St James Park, home of the legendary Newcastle United) and there only cathedral in Britain named after St Nicholas the inspiration for Santa in the USA though over here we have Father Christmas instead.
