Private Half Day Stamford Pub Tour

3 to 4 hours (approximately)
Pickup offered
Offered in: English

The beautiful town of Stamford is on the old coaching route between London, York, Newcastle and Edinburgh and as such is the natural home for some wonderfully characterful pubs and inns that would have been a hive of activity in days gone by.

Today Stamford is said to be the finest stone city in Britain, there are less horse and carts and more ambling visitors and shoppers exploring all the nooks and crannies.

The pub tour is a great alternative way to see this marvelous old town whilst learning its history as we visit some of its most historic old pubs with a drink included in each one (drinks not compulsory).

What's Included

A free drink is included in every pub we go in.

If we meet at the station then the first place we will stop off at is the Bull and Swan which became an old coaching inn early in the 17th Century. It is snug, cozy and serves a great collection of beers and real ales. Learn about the eccentric 5th Earl of Exeter who drank here centuries ago.

We will walk over the old bridge across the river before making our way through the heart of the old retail area of Stamford, full of lanes of independent shops before happening across the Kings Head which has a selection of drinks to match its great appearance.

A few minutes away at the far end of Broad Street is the rather charming free House, The Lord Burghley. Perhaps unsurprisingly going by its outside appearance, this old pub used to be a regular old house before being converted into a large pub replete with some fantastic open fires and atmospheric rooms to sample their wide range of ales.

Stamford has had a brewery for centuries though the present All Saints Brewery was set up in 1825. It still uses antique steam brewing equipment at to make a range of organic handcrafted fruit beers. It would almost seem rude not to sample their fruit beers at the adjoining Melbourne Brothers pub.
