The old lighthouse was launched in 1860 only to be decommssioned 40 years and dozens of shipwrecks too late after studies proved that its high altitude posed a great danger to sailors around the cape as they couldn't be able to see it in cloudy weather conditions. A new lighthouse was since built at a much lower altitude.
