The "Secas" Lagoon (Laguna de Secas) was created when the Antisana volcano erupted more than 400 years ago. The lava from the eruption split apart and was carried by the nearby river. The Cayambe-Coca reserve's rain forest is characterized by the enormous petrified lava boulders.
