Diri-Baba Mausoleum, located in the village of Maraza on the way from Baku to Shamakhi, is one of the most impressive tombs ever built in Azerbaijan. Due to its unique setting, original architecture and various legends surrounding the monument, it is a popular destination for both pilgrims and tourists.
This oldest and largest mosque in Azerbaijan, Shamakhi Dzhuma, according to the legend was built in the 8th century when Shamakhi was chosen as residence by an Arabian caliph. The initial Arabian inscription on the portal of the mosque said that the mosque had constructed in 744. Therefore Shamakhi Dzhuma is considered as one of the earliest mosques of Transcaucasia. The composition of Shamakhi Dzhuma has no analogues in Azerbaijan. The architecture of the building is as follows - the huge hall for prayers is divided into three independent sections connected by open wide doorways.
Lake Nohur is a manmade lake created after World War II to supply surrounding villages with water. Eye-catching Lake with the magnificent Caucasus Mountains, fresh air and water are one of the most picturesque places of Gabala. Today it is a popular recreation spot consisting of a large tree-lined body of water reflecting the Greater Caucasus Mountains in its green-blue waters.
Tufandag Mountain Resort is a must-see place for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts. The Tufandag Mountain reaches 4,191m in height and boasts a stunning landscape of pure white snow and wisps of cloud floating amidst the Caucasus Mountains. The city of Sheki was home to a khanate in the second half of the 18th century, two of whose palace buildings can still be visited today. The Khan’s Palace (Xan sarayı) is the main attraction at Sheki, which features colourful stained-glass windows known as shabaka (şəbəkə) and intricately-furnished interiors.
Caravanserais built along trade routes used to function as guesthouses. As Sheki was a city of trade and crafts a set of caravanserais was built here, but only two of the five large caravanserais that functioned in the 18th and 19th centuries have reached modern times.
Sweet houses are authentic places to have a seat and drink delicious Azerbaijani tea with wide range of local home-made deserts.
Sheki fortress - is a fortress of the Middle Ages, ruins of which remain on the coast of the Kish River, about 4 kilometres from Shaki city, on the summit of Garatepe Mountain. Construction of the fortress is dated back to the 8th or 9th century. The fortress was thoroughly consolidated and was used for defence.
