Here we visit a typical gypsy family in a village running a metal workshop.
Most important fortified church in Transylvania, Biertan was long time bishopseat and one of the last gothic constructions to be built here.
After breakfast we start the day with a city tour in Sighișoara where we admire the most beautiful medieval townscape in the country, which is often used as a film set. We visit the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the fortified walls and towers of the town, as well as the birthplace of the Wallachian leader Vlad Dracul, who later became known as Count Dracula in Gothic literature and film.
Next, we visit the charming village of Viscri. Away from the main roads, it seems like time stood still in the 19th century here. We visit the fortified church and the summer residence of King Charles of Great Britain.
In the afternoon, city tour in Brasov. We learn about the local history, visit the old town up to the panorama point at the Black Tower.
In the morning we visit the Bear Sanctuary, a safe heaven for mistreated bears in Romania. We find out more on the current situation of the bears, but also get to see them in the wild.
In the afternoon we visit the Peleș Castle, the summer residence of the Romanian royal family, a modern palace built at the end at the 19th century to resemble castles from the late middle ages. Another highlight here is the Sinaia Monastery.
Drive to Bran Castle. The Bran Castle Museum is located on the former border between Transylvania and Walachia. Also known as the Dracula Castle, it was built in 1377 to safeguard the trading route between Transylvania and Walachia, enlarged and restored a few times since then.
After the lunch break we drive up the Transfagasaran Highway up to Balea Lake (June – October), otherwise only up to Balea Waterfall. The „Highway in the clouds” was built as a pure megalomaniac project of then Dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.
In the charming village of Sibiel, we visit the small glasspaintings museum.
In the morning we start our city in Sibiu, the most expansive old town in Romania. We cover most of the Upper Town including a visit at the Council Tower
One of the renaissance styled constructions in Transylvania, the Corvin Castle has a strong medieval flair. We find out more on the family of Corvin that gave more successful local kings along the centuries.
We see here a great example of a star shaped citadel and find out more about the Habsburgs empire expansion towards the East.
