Your tour begins in the historic center of San Marino near Piazza della Libertà, the heart of the city and home to the government palace. After a short introduction to the history of the republic and its strategic location atop Monte Titano, the walk begins toward the fortress district.
Your first stop is Guaita Tower, the oldest and most impressive of the three fortifications. Built in the 11th century, it once served as both a defensive stronghold and a prison. Walk through the fortress walls and climb to the upper levels to enjoy sweeping views over the surrounding countryside and toward the Adriatic coast.
Leaving Guaita, you will follow the scenic ridge path toward the second tower. The walk includes one of the most photographed areas of San Marino, Passo delle Streghe, or “Witches’ Passage.” This panoramic pathway connects the towers and offers spectacular views over cliffs, valleys, and distant villages.
Continuing along the ridge, you will reach Cesta Tower, the highest tower on Monte Titano. The tower houses the Museum of Ancient Weapons, displaying a fascinating collection of medieval arms and armor. From the tower’s terraces, visitors can admire some of the best panoramic views in the republic.
The final stop is Montale Tower, the smallest and most secluded of the three towers. Although the tower is not open to visitors, it remains an important symbol of San Marino’s medieval defenses. From the surrounding viewpoints, guests can photograph the tower and enjoy peaceful scenery overlooking the forests and valleys below.
Conclude your visit at the Museo di Stato, situated within the old city. Here, an impressive collection of artworks and artifacts chronicles the rich cultural and historical legacy of San Marino across the centuries.
After exploring the towers, the tour returns toward the historic center of San Marino, allowing time for additional photos and views along the fortress walls before concluding near Piazza della Libertà.
