Located close to the train station, in the market square, you will first visit the Old Town Hall located in the heart of the Historic Old Town. Here, you will find numerous food and wine and shopping options along the way.
As you continue, you will visit the Stadtkirche (Town Church), a church where Martin Luther and Johannes Bugenhagen preached. It is said to date back to the year 1187 and was originally a wooden church. It is listed as a UNESCO World heritage site.
Next, you will have a chance to see the tombs inside the Castle Church (Reformation Memorial Church) which is also a UNESCO World heritage site. The construction of this Church was completed in the early 16th century. Here, you will see late Gothic style architecture by the architect Conrad Pflüger and also works of other artists.
Continue on to Cranach Hoefe where you will see the works of Lucas Cranach the Elder. Here, you will see the printing press and painting school in Cranach House and the Cranach Courtyard.
Finally, you will visit the Lutherhaus, a writer's house museum dedicated to Martin Luther, an important figure in Protestant reformation. You will also have the chance to visit a 16th century old University building.
