Enjoy a fun day out exploring the Fukugawa area of Tokyo. Laid back Fukugawa is the heart of old Tokyo and a charming unpretentious district. Once an old waterfront merchant town the area is known for mixing the traditional with the trendy. Independent shops, bars and galleries rub shoulders with traditional gardens and temples. This off the beaten path area is great for walking and exploring and is known as Tokyo's coffee town. Fugukawa meishi, Tokyo's famous clam dish, is from the area and worth sampling.
After visiting the Fukugawa Edo museum, enjoying some fine local coffee, strolling through the beautiful Kiyosumi gardens, and enjoying the local Fukugawa meishi speciality we will visit the nearby Sunamachi Ginza shopping street. This charming food street is lined with delicious stalls selling tasty snacks.

    The area surrounding Kiyosumi Shirakawa is also know as Fukugawa. I quieter neighbourhood across the Sumida which retains its shitamachi charm whilst also being home to many interesting shops, museums and galleries. The area has developed a reputation as Tokyo's coffee district. Explore the charming area stopping by interesting shops and galleries. Enjoy a delicious cup of coffee at one of the areas hip coffee shops. Stop by a local eatery to try the areas little known Fukgawa Meishi, a uniquely Tokyo dish of clams on rice.
