Arrive at the Almeria airport and pick up your hired car (head to the hall to meet with a representative). From the airport, drive to the seaside town of Almeria, located in the province of the same name. This Mediterranean city boasts a history of Hollywood films and its Moorish past creates an eclectic setting. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then check out and drive to the mountain town of Lanjaron, found in the province of Granada. Lanjaron is known simply as the ‘spa town’ and the most popular of its type in the whole of Andalusia. It is said that the waters can help alleviate ailments such as rheumatism and arthritis, as well as liver and kidney problems. Breakfast at the hotel. Lanjaron has enough to see and do to make a visit worthwhile any time of the year. After breakfast, bid farewell to the tranquillity and healing waters of Lanjaron and continue north, passing through the beautiful city of Granada, to Baeza. Baeza and its nearby neighbour, Ubeda, are two of the most beautiful towns in the Jaen province and both have been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Each has magnificent monumental old towns, based on Renaissance palaces an churches dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. After breakfast at the hotel, perhaps make a short trip to Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park, the biggest protected area in Spain and the second in Europe for a chance to see an array of wildlife and plant life. Or perhaps visit the city of Jaen, capital of the province, a city full of interesting history and architecture, and known as the ‘World Capital of Olive Oil’. Enjoy a tasty breakfast at the hotel before departing to Guadix, in the province of Granada. This small town is located in a truly unique rocky setting, framed by the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is a city of great historical interest and one of the oldest in Spain. It has a rich and extensive historical and artistic heritage and great architectural examples can be observed all over town. Three distinct areas can be found in the town including the upper area with its many cave dwellings; the medieval, Renaissance and Baroque area; and the new Guadix, the result of recent urban development. The unique town centre includes historical neighbourhoods with its many cave dwellings dug into the earth. The Moorish Alcazaba stands atop a hill overlooking the town, while the monumental Cathedral and many churches and chapels dot the town’s skyline.
