Approximately 1000 kilometers west of the Ecuadorian mainland coast is the Galapagos archipelago. Over the centuries, changing ocean currents and airstreams have made it difficult for sailors to locate the islands; as a result they have become known as “the enchanted islands”. Due to their remote location, the islands have been able to maintain their unique flora and fauna despite human interference and are today considered a unique paradise on earth where we can relax and share the company of diverse wildlife. In 1835, after visiting four of the 11 islands, Charles Darwin was so profoundly inspired he developed his “Theory of Evolution”.
In the morning you arrive on Baltra Island. Your guide will already be waiting at Baltra airport and take you to Santa Cruz Island. Enjoy lunch at a local farm in the highlands, followed by the observation of giant turtles in the wild. Then continue to the port in Puerto Ayora to check into the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Charles Darwin Station, where scientists from all over the world meet and work together in environmental projects such as water analysis, animal protection, effects of tourism on the nature etc. Here you can visit the turtle rearing station, where the animals are raised before being released into nature. Land iguanas can be observed here too. Overnight stay in Puerto Ayora.
Discover the magic of the Galapagos Islands by embarking on a kayaking adventure that will take you through some of the most breathtaking spots in the region. Begin your journey with a 45-minute hike from Puerto Ayora to Tortuga Bay, a heavenly location known for its soft coral sand and spectacular scenery. The trail is surrounded by lush vegetation and exotic wildlife, making it a nature lover's paradise. Once you reach the bay, hop on a kayak and set out to explore the crystal-clear waters that surround it. At the afternoon, you will have the pleasure of embarking on a small boat that will take you to some of the most mesmerizing spots within the bay of Santa Cruz. Your first stop will be the enchanting islet of La Lobería. Afterward, you will be taken to the Shark Channel. Lastly, you'll make your way to Las Grietas, two colossal cliffs brimming with fresh water on the surface and saltwater beneath.
Today you're free to enjoy the island's beauty at your own pace, by bike. You'll have a bike reserved and waiting for you at your hotel, so that you can set straight off on a two-wheel adventure. Santa Cruz is a dormant volcano that last erupted over 1.5 million years ago. Evidence of this explosive past remains, with black and rusty colored volcanic rocks across the island, and lava tunnels you can cycle to and explore. In the same area as the tunnels, pay a visit to Lava Java organic coffee farm, for refreshments as you look out to the Pacific Ocean. Then, turn west toward the secluded El Garrapatero beach or continue into the highlands. Back in Puerto Ayora, visit the Fishing Pier, to cycle near the sea lions watching the fishermen reel in their catches, as well as pelicans, and marine iguanas. There's very light traffic across the island, so you'll often have the roads to yourself. Once you're done, leave the bike at your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.
If there is enough free time until your transfer to the airport, we suggest that you visit the Charles Darwin Station (free entrance), Tortuga Bay or do some souvenir shopping. Your driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the Airport, passing through the Itabaca Channel, which you will cross on a ferry. For the last part of your trip to the airport, you will take the public shuttle bus.
