    Your Amazon adventure begins in Quito with an overnight tourist bus journey to Cuyabeno Bridge. Leave the city behind and travel toward the Ecuadorian Amazon, where a unique rainforest experience awaits. The journey takes approximately 10–11 hours. The tourist bus transportation from Quito to Cuyabeno and the return transfer from Cuyabeno to Quito are included in the tour price.

    Entering Cuyabeno: Your First Rainforest Encounter

    Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

    Arrive at Cuyabeno Bridge at approximately 2:00 p.m. Enjoy a box lunch and complete the final preparations before entering the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. Board a motorized canoe and travel along the Cuyabeno River through unique blackwater ecosystems surrounded by lush rainforest. During the approximately 2–3-hour journey, look for birds, monkeys, reptiles, and other Amazonian wildlife. Upon arrival at Amazonas Lodge, settle into your accommodation and enjoy dinner. In the evening, your certified naturalist guide will introduce you to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, its ecosystems, conservation efforts, and the activities planned for the following days.

    Laguna Grande: Wildlife, Rainforest & Amazon Sunset

    Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

    Begin the day with breakfast at approximately 7:30 a.m. After receiving your rubber boots and a briefing from your guide, travel by motorized or paddle canoe toward Laguna Grande. Navigate through the flooded igapó forest, where ancient trees rise from the water and create a unique habitat for orchids, bromeliads, ferns, birds, and other wildlife. Continue into the terra firme forest for a guided walk along the Palma Roja Trail. Learn about rainforest ecology while searching for macaws, toucans, tanagers, woodpeckers, monkeys, and other Amazonian species. Return to Amazonas Lodge for a late lunch and time to relax. In the afternoon, travel back to Laguna Grande for an evening canoe excursion. Depending on weather and water conditions, enjoy a safe swim and watch the sunset over the Amazon. After dinner, an optional short night walk may be offered to look for frogs and other nocturnal wildlife.

    Amazon Traditions & Indigenous Knowledge

    Early risers may join an optional birdwatching excursion at approximately 6:00 a.m. Travel by canoe as the rainforest awakens and look for colorful birds, primates, and other wildlife along the river. After breakfast, continue downstream toward Puerto Bolívar, home to the Siona people. Discover the connection between Amazonian biodiversity, river ecosystems, and indigenous traditions. In the afternoon, visit a nearby Cofán community and meet a local shaman. Learn about medicinal plants, traditional knowledge, and ancestral healing practices. Take part in the harvesting and preparation of cassava bread, an important element of Amazonian culture and daily life. Return to Amazonas Lodge for dinner and a special evening gathering. Depending on weather conditions, an optional short night walk may be available to observe frogs, insects, spiders, and other nocturnal species.

    Enjoy breakfast at approximately 7:30 a.m. before preparing for your departure from Amazonas Lodge, generally scheduled around 9:30 a.m. The lodge team will assist with your luggage before you board the motorized canoe for the return journey through the Amazon waterways. Navigate back to Cuyabeno Bridge while enjoying your final views of the rainforest. Upon arrival, board the included tourist bus for the return journey from Cuyabeno to Quito. The return journey takes approximately 10–11 hours.
