What to expect
Your driver will pick you up around 01:30 AM - 02:30 AM from your hotel in Ubud, Seminyak, Canggu, or Kuta, or you can meet directly at Toya Bungkah village, the starting point. After a short safety briefing, start hiking under a sky full of stars around 3:30 AM with your licensed local guide.
Reach the 1711-meter summit after about 1.5–2 hours of trekking, just in time to watch the sunrise over Mount Agung, Lake Batur, and Mount Rinjani in Lombok. Enjoy a simple breakfast of eggs boiled in volcanic steam, bread, and hot coffee or tea while admiring the stunning views.
After sunrise, explore steam vents and craters, learning about Mount Batur’s geology and local stories. Begin your descent around 7:00 AM, walking past lava fields and farmlands with scenic views all around.
You may also choose to relax in a natural hot spring or visit a coffee plantation before heading back.
