Under one of the clearest and darkest skies on Earth, this experience reveals the beauty and immensity of the Atacama night.

The Alarkapin Observatory is the only private astronomical center in San Pedro de Atacama managed by local indigenous astronomers, who combine modern scientific astronomy with ancestral Andean knowledge. Through their stories and guidance, you’ll discover how ancient cultures read the stars, understood time, and found meaning in the universe.

Using professional telescopes and traditional perspectives, you’ll learn to see the cosmos not only as science — but as a bridge between worlds, where culture, spirituality, and astronomy meet.

At Alarkapin, local indigenous astronomers will welcome you and guide you through a two-hour journey of celestial discovery. Combining ancient Andean wisdom with modern science, they’ll share their vision of the cosmos and explain how the Atacameño people have understood the stars for centuries. You’ll observe constellations, planets, and deep-sky objects using professional telescopes and optical instruments, while learning about the myths and traditions that link astronomy to the local culture. The clear, dry skies of the Atacama Desert — among the clearest on Earth — make this an unforgettable stargazing experience, where science and spirituality come together under the vast southern sky.
