Once an unknown attraction, the Hidden Canyon is now considered one Bali’s must-sees. The local deem it sacred, and once you see the weird and wonderful rock formations inside the incredible natural surroundings, you’ll understand why. Adventure junkies and nature lovers will embrace the opportunity to don their swimwear, go barefoot, jump, trek and swim deep into the heart of the canyon.
You’ll be encountering Mother Nature quite a bit throughout the day as we travel by air-conditioned minibus to Tegenungan Waterfall, just a stone’s throw from popular Ubud. It will take you over a 100 steps to get up close and personal to the waterfalls, but it will be well worth it, plus you’ve just earned yourself more room in your stomach for the delicious food to come.
Indonesian food over a local lunch is up next. Famous for its fresh, nutty flavours, many travellers deem this cuisine a Southeast Asian favourite. Fill up now because a busy afternoon exploring some of Bali’s best-loved temples is on the agenda. We’ll start off at Goa Gajah, otherwise known as the Elephant Temple. In true Hindi style, this temple is elaborately decorated with otherworldly carvings and taken over by sprawling tree roots akin to Angkor Wat.
One of the few places in Bali that can compete is the Gunung Kawi Temple which you’ll visit before the day is over. It’s one of the island’s oldest monuments, a must to experience the history and culture of Indonesia. To get there, we’ll pass through the beautiful terraced rice fields that Bali is so famous for. You’ll have an all-round feel for the island’s nature, cuisine and architecture by the time we travel back to your accommodation!
