The distance between Kathmandu and Lumbini is about 330 km, taking approximately 10–11 hours by road. Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, welcomes thousands of visitors every year.
From Kathmandu, the deluxe AC tourist bus departs from Gongabu Bus Park and drops passengers at Gate No. 5 of the Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini, located close to the Lumbini Garden and within easy reach of hotels. For the return trip, buses from Lumbini to Kathmandu also depart from near the Lumbini Garden.
The usual route for the Kathmandu–Lumbini tourist bus is:
Gongabu Bus Park – Balaju – Kalanki – Malakhu – Mugling – Narayanghat – Nawalparasi – Butwal – Bhairahawa – Lumbini (Maya Devi Temple, Gate No. 5).
The return journey follows the same route back to Kathmandu.
