Nagarkot is a scenic hilltop village 38 km east of Kathmandu, sitting at 2,175 meters. It is the closest and most popular viewpoint for a stunning Himalayan sunrise near the capital. On clear mornings, you can see ranges such as Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and even Annapurna, along with quiet village life and the peaceful countryside.
Your tour starts with an early 1.5-hour drive from your hotel to Nagarkot. Upon reaching the hilltop, the fresh morning air and calm landscape welcome you. You’ll watch the sunrise over the mountains and enjoy sweeping views of snow-capped peaks glowing in warm light. Afterward, you may have a local breakfast before heading toward Bhaktapur.
The Bhaktapur visit is a free add-on, giving you the chance to explore this UNESCO World Heritage city. Wander through its medieval squares, admire Newari architecture, and experience Nepal’s rich cultural heritage before returning to Kathmandu.

In Nagarkot, you’ll experience one of the best sunrise viewpoints near Kathmandu. After an early morning drive to the hilltop (2,175 m), you’ll watch the sun rise over the Himalayas and enjoy sweeping views of ranges like Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and on clear days even Annapurna. You can walk around the viewpoint for photos, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and explore the peaceful village surroundings. After sunrise, you may have a local breakfast before continuing your journey back or heading to your next destination.

2Bhaktapur Durbar Square
You’ll explore one of Nepal’s finest UNESCO World Heritage cities, known for its living culture and beautifully preserved Newari architecture. You’ll walk through ancient courtyards, stone-paved streets, and vibrant squares, visiting highlights like the 55-Window Palace, Golden Gate, Vatsala Temple, Nyatapola Temple, Bhairavnath Temple, and Pottery Square. You’ll see local artisans making pottery, woodcarvings, and traditional crafts, taste local snacks, browse handmade souvenirs, and enjoy the authentic atmosphere of this medieval Newari city before returning to Kathmandu.
