    Mayan Museum of Cancun

Then we will head to the Mayam museum. Surrounded by dense tropical forest, the contemporary Mayam Museum of Cancún is a welcome respite from the beach and buffet lines of the neighboring high-rise hotels. The sleek museum contains engaging exhibits on Mayan history and art, as well as one of the Yucatán's most important collections of Mayan artifacts, most of which were discovered at key archaeological sites in the region. Behind the museum, a jungle path winds through the trees to San Miguelito, a one-time thriving Maya community that is now a collection of crumbling stone temples, dwellings and pyramids. Together, the museum and the ruins are a powerful introduction to the ancient Maya civilization and a reminder of the people who once lived here.

    Zona Arqueologica El Meco

First you will visit El Meco is a small archaeological zone located on the northern outskirts of the city of Cancun. There are numerous shade trees, birds and flowering plants that enhance the visitors experience. El Meco began as a small fishermen’s camp sometime in the 2nd century CE and belonged to a large network of coastal cities and outposts along the Caribbean coast, constructed in an architectural style known as Costa Oriental. The archaeological site of El Meco is made up of a small plaza, featuring a structure known as El Castillo, a five-level tablero talud style temple. At the base of the structure, it is possible to observe the remains of large serpent heads reminiscent of those found at the base of the Pyramid of Kukulkán.
