It was the third time I stayed at this hotel, and may be the last one. I used to love it but now is clear that there are some things to be done to make it deserve the Tripadvisor awards that hang on the wall at the loby. Rooms are comfortable and clean but they need maintenance. They used to offer good shampoo, soap and conditioner, now they offer poor quality products. Breakfast is pretty basic, croissants and toasts (cold, they don't offer a toaster), although products are good. The swimming pool was full of children after 6 PM, although there were many sings stating that they were allowed only before that time. The manager saw this and did nothing. At the SPA the only thing that was working was the Sauna, the rest of the SPA was not working at all. Also, they used to have somebody taking care of the SPA, now there is nobody helping.
Stayed for four nights with my husband in January 2013. Had to wait a good 15 minutes for someone to come check us in, since no one was at reception. Person who checked us in was extremely rude and unapproachable (and continued to be throughout our stay). Upon check in, we were told that we had booked a hotel room, rather than an apartment, therefore we would not have beach service for our stay, and if we wanted it, it would be well over 200 pesos daily. I didn't care because I am more of a pool person than a beach person, but it would have been nice to have been informed of this over the phone. Credit card payments incur an additional 5% fee.
The good: beautiful grounds and pool that are well maintained, though much smaller property than I had anticipated. Location is great - smack in the middle of Pinmar and Carilo. Very close to a beautiful, well-maintained beach area. Super clean - you could always see people cleaning everything all day long! The room and bathrooms were immaculate, though they did forget to clean our room one day because we did not leave the key.
The bad: our room was facing the main street that goes to both Carilo and Pinamar, which was very loud at night if you kept the sliding doors slightly open. Would recommend a garden/pool view room to block the noise if you don't want to use the AC. Did not find staff approachable or helpful and we wondered if this was because we were not Argentine, though both my husband and I speak pretty good Spanish. The breakfast was very basic and the same every day. I am both gluten and lactose intolerant, so I brought my own soy milk and bread every morning. I could only have fruit and jam from the breakfast buffet. It was otherwise mostly very sugary breads and pastries, ham, cheese, milk, juices, hot chocolate, fresh fruit and spreads (jams, dulce de leche). No yogurt. Toiletries were never replenished... so we ended up using our own toilet paper (since we had some left over from our stay in an apartment in Buenos Aires).
Really enjoyed our stay in the property, which was a short drive to all the action but not in the middle of it. Did not try the spa or the other food available (frankly, I could not eat any of it). Would have liked to have felt more warmth from the hotel staff.
To add to the positive reviews in Spanish, I stayed at Villa Ostende in October 2011 over a long weekend. Vanessa and the staff could not have been more welcoming. The hotel is fantastic value for money, and I would warmly recommend it to anyone wanting a family-oriented location for their stay in Pinamar.
