We had a good experience overall.
Pros:

The location is superb. Trams are readily available, easy to walk around the shops and restaurants and convenient to museums. We used the central train station to visit other sites and it was easy to take a tram or walk to the station; a real plus. Our room was small but suitable for our short stay. The air conditioning was excellent another plus for us coming from a desert locale. The staff was very helpful in getting us a taxi ride to the airport-the taxi experience was excellent. Car, driver and the fact it happened very early in the morning.

Cons:

The value for the room was less than desirable. Suggest strongly to get an upgraded room with a balcony, large bathroom and nice closet space for baggage. We had a room like this for our first two nights. The mini refrigerator did not work. A real issue if you have some wine, drinks, cheese and/or snacks. The real downside for a basic room is value, suggest anyone to really consider upgrading or going somewhere else.

I wouldn’t even thinking of staying anywhere else in Amsterdam.
Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel with all the amenities of a 5 star classic hotel. Probably my favourite hotel that I’ve ever stayed at and I’ve travelled a lot. The restaurants, bars and patios are all amazing. The staff were all fantastic.

Clayton is a great choice if headed to Milkweg for a show- bar American is a classic-
Pros:

Super nice staff-great location by Liedesplein-bar American has great drinks and ambiance- room was big-get a room with a balcony on the courtyard, super quiet!

Cons:

needs higher quality breakfast.

Chambre très spacieuse pour Amsterdam, les lits étaient très confortables, et le bâtiment est superbe et extrêmement bien placé pour rayonner partout dans la ville à pieds. Bon petit déjeuner, dans la très belle salle historique du restaurant.

Cons:

La climatisation soufflait directement sur le lit ce qui fait que nous avions du l'éteindre pendant la nuit alors qu'il faisait très chaud. Dommage.
