Great Stay
Pros:

I had a spacious comfortable room with a spectacular view of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan.Rooms have good sound proofing, did not hear noise from other rooms or from the hall. The staff were very professional, helpful, polite, and always available.Breakfast was a nice buffet and not pricey. The location is just steps from downtown and public transportation.

Cons:

Parking was an additional charge, not expensive and most are covered spots.

Reliable budget hotel with lazy management
Pros:

This is an update of my five star review from earlier this year. I stay at this hotel very often for business travel to Evanston. In my past review, I mentioned upfront that this is a cheap, no-frills hotel. But often what makes a cheap, no-frills hotel a GOOD hotel is responsive, caring management. Holiday Inn does not have that. Just to be clear, the staff is generally very good. I’m talking about the actual owners/management. Here’s an example of what I’m talking about: for literally months, I have been reporting the fact that the fitness center is in need of major TLC to the front desk. For months, nothing has changed. The Peloton bike is off-line. (One guy at the front desk said “we’ve tried to fix it, there’s nothing we can do.” — then get a new one!) The treadmill is lopsided and needs to be adjusted. They are missing several matching dumbbells. (How did this even happen? Did they never buy the matching dumbbells to begin with? Or did they get stolen? Who steals dumbbells from a hotel fitness center?) I don’t mean to rant about the fitness center but issues there are emblematic of the managerial apathy at this property in general.
