Awesome!
Pros:

Hotel exceeded our expectations! Great location for walking Amsterdam. Hotel was immaculate and everyone that works there was so friendly and ready to help. Kelly at the front desk, Mo helping us get situated and giving us a tour of the hotel and Jordan at the front door always with a smile and going the extra mile to help us get where we needed to go. Would definitely recommend and we will be back for sure!

We Can’t Wait To Return!
Pros:

This review is long overdue but sometimes life (cancer!) gets in the way of our good intentions.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel De L’Europe (“HDE”) for the second time last summer and, somehow, it was even better than the first. For both trips the hotel arranged a private car to pick us up from Schiphol, and in both cases the car was luxe and the perfect way to arrive after a long flight. We were greeted by several people including Ed, the Front Desk manager I think, who has worked at HDE for 20+ years (a good sign for any business, imo). It was my birthday and Ed led everyone in signing Happy Birthday in the most amazing voice I’ve heard in a while.

We arrived early and not only was our room ready but we’d been upgraded to a corner suite, and waiting for us were flowers & balloons & champagne & a beautiful (and oh-so-delicious!) birthday cake, courtesy of Sander at the Concierge Desk whom we’d met on our first trip to HDE.

The property is gorgeous and the room incredible – it was hard getting out of the heavenly bed and I could have stayed in that shower all day – but the real star of the show, once again, is the people. Everyone is so genuinely friendly and helpful; we wanted for nothing.

Special shout-outs to our wonderful butlers, Domingo & Timea, to Nieta & Kostas at Brasserie Marie who made breakfast special every day and, of course, to Ed at the front desk and concierge extraordinaire Sander. Thank you all.

We are excited to be returning again at the end of this month. Now that my chemo is over we have a lot to celebrate…and we can’t think of a better place to do it!

Spoiled at De L’Europe
Pros:

De L’Europe Amsterdam is a beautifully maintained, classic Hotel. It is a private hotel owned by the Heineken family. Upon arrival at 9 AM we were greeted warmly and offered coffee. We sat in the chandeliered, upscale lobby to drink it. All staff were courteous as well as helpful. The hotel sits right on a canal and is centrally located. We walked to many places- if not all places we visited. The rooms are posh, but small. The marble bathroom is large and stocked with Dyptique product. The continental breakfast is generous and has a lot of delicious choices. We did not love the lunch menu, but the view of the canal from our table was breathtaking. We noticed that the bar/restaurant at night must be popular as it was well attended. The fitness center had everything we wanted and the gift shop has unique, local and fairly affordable items to purchase. For the type of hotel and amenities, location and staff quality- it is definitely worth the money spent per night.

One of Europe’s Truly Special Hotels - A Perfect Stay!
Pros:

We stayed at Hotel De L’Europe in Amsterdam for six days in June, and it was a complete delight from start to finish. This is truly one of Europe’s special hotels.

From the moment we arrived, the experience felt personal and refined. We learned that the hotel is still owned by the Freddy Heineken family, and that family-run feeling comes through immediately. It does not feel like part of a large chain; it feels like a very special boutique hotel with history, warmth, and character.

Our driver must have alerted the hotel that we were arriving because the moment we pulled up, two doormen greeted us by name and welcomed us into the hotel. We had booked the beautiful Wolfie Suite, and as we entered, Maria, the butler for the suite section of the hotel, greeted us and offered chilled glasses of champagne.

Before our stay, I had communicated with the hotel about our visit to Amsterdam. I had shared that I grew up in the Netherlands as a child and mentioned how much I enjoyed Dutch licorice. That small detail turned into one of the most memorable touches of the trip. When we entered our room, there was a beautiful little metal box shaped like the hotel, filled with delicious Dutch licorice. It was thoughtful, personal, and a perfect example of the level of care this hotel provides.

The location is outstanding. Our suite looked out over one of Amsterdam’s canals, with a beautiful view of the water, streets, and city life. Just about everything we wanted to see was within walking distance, making the hotel a perfect base for exploring Amsterdam.

The suite itself was ideal for an extended stay. We were on a month-long trip and traveling with a lot of luggage, and the room had plenty of space, closets, and drawers for everything we brought with us. It was elegant, comfortable, and very well designed.

We ate at the Italian restaurant, which was delicious, and we also spent time at Freddy’s Bar, which was great fun. It has a special feeling, especially knowing that Freddy Heineken used to enjoy spending time there when he was at the hotel. We were told that he purchased the hotel as a gift for his wife, and it truly feels like a beautiful expression of love and esteem.

One of the most memorable experiences of our stay was a canal cruise on the Freddy Heineken boat, which Maria, our butler, arranged for us. This was very different from the standard tourist boats that travel the canals. It is a special boat with its own history, including bulletproof glass from the period after Freddy Heineken’s kidnapping, when he was understandably concerned about his safety. It made for a unique and memorable way to experience Amsterdam.

The breakfast buffet was also wonderful and included many Dutch touches that brought back childhood memories for me. Having lived in the Netherlands as a child, I especially enjoyed seeing chocolate “muisjes” or sprinkles, which Americans might think of simply as chocolate sprinkles, but in Holland children often enjoy them on buttered bread or toast at breakfast.

I cannot say enough good things about our experience. The staff, housekeeping, doormen, porters, front desk team, concierge, and butler service were all a delight throughout our stay. Hotel De L’Europe combines elegance, history, location, and deeply personal service in a way that is very rare.

If you want to enjoy everything Amsterdam has to offer, I cannot think of a better place to stay.

Sweta Upadhyay Is a Superior Reservations Agent
Pros:

Reservations Agent Sweta Upadhyay has been the most professional, patient and kind representative of De L’Europe Hotel. They have gone above and beyond to make sure I understand pricing, upgrade fees, taxes, city tax, etc to make sure I knew what I was paying for - don’t ever second guess that they are there to provide the best care with honesty and integrity. Sweta, thank you again for the upgrade to a junior suite. We are looking forward to spending our honeymoon at De L’Europe in September!!

Couples trip to Amsterdam
Pros:

Wonderful stay at this hotel! Jordan, was the first person to greet us and he was very kind and helpful throughout our entire stay. Lucas, at the front desk was another individual who helped us tremendously. He sat down and gave us a layout of the city and what interesting things we may enjoy. The room was gorgeous and very clean. We had a balcony view that we used every morning and evening. The bathroom was spacious and had all the amenities we needed. The decor was beautiful and the entire staff was kind. I would highly recommend.

An absolute gem
Pros:

Stayed here for four days on our way back from a week working in Nigeria. The hotel and the city were the perfect spots for relaxation and fun. The staff couldn’t be more competent, helpful, and friendly. Every staff member we interacted with I would give 5/5 stars. This hotel is a must for anyone staying in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam in Summer
Pros:

Fantastic hotel with exemplary hospitality. Great location, three excellent restaurants, and a few great bars/lounges. Our suite had a patio overlooking the canal, gorgeous views. Very hot when we stayed and the air conditioning was perfect.

Flore (fine dining) was as good as promised, food outstanding and great wine list, with many hard to find wines on the bottle list. Vegetable and seafood forward dishes.

Brasserie Marie was great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Casual, but also excellent wine list. Freddy’s Bar (named after Freddy Heineken) was great afternoon or evening stop for a beer or cocktails and a snack.

Concierges were great, butler service in some rooms was special (ask for Francesco!), porters were super helpful (thank you Jordan), and service in all restaurants bar were spot on ( Antonello in Flore, Melle, Mats in Brasserie Marie)

The type of hotel one yearns to come back.
Pros:

We stayed with a group of friends for a wedding which had arranged a package deal. The service, the room conditions and the overall experience was outstanding. Check in was easy and the concierge makes one feel like old timers. It is well located and has that old time European charm reflecting the best of Amsterdam.

Most incredible hotel in Amsterdam
Pros:

This was the best hotel experience I have ever had. If the location and views were not incredible enough, the staff, service, and amenities put it over the top. Each suite is designed by a different artist (Valerie suite is unbeatable). Jordan was amazing - so attentive and so friendly each and every day. The spa was beautiful and the gym is updated and right on the canal. Will most certainly be coming back.

Good accommodation and hotel and was perfect for one night stay
Pros:

greeting at arrival very good, special mention to Mohammad. Quick to get us to room. Freddys bar was good and watched the Dutch hammer Sweden so atmosphere was good!

Cons:

trying to call hotel was a ridiculous wait time for a 5 star, very frustrating as we had to call twice. Lastly the Brasserie was recomended which we ate at. My wife was after a green salad to start and the brought her a bowl of lettuce only? We requested that they add some other salad items like tomatoes, cucumber, onion etc and the waitress who can only be said to have a sh*t attitude said it was impossible as they didnt have any. I had to explain we were ina 5 star £1500 a night hotel with 3 restaurants so it was highly unlikely they only had lettuce leaves. She went off and manager came back with all the items we requested. No big deal but its items like this that stop you returning. Sitting at breakfast looking out at the canal next morning we had the pleasure of a guy on opposite side doing crack and then dropping his trousers to relieve himself in the canal. Maybe i'm getting too old for Amsterdam?

Five Plus Stars!
Pros:

What can you say about a hotel stay where absolutely nothing could be done to make your stay better? This hotel has the finest amenities, decor, service, restaurants and bars. The room was beautiful with the biggest, finest bed I have ever had a hotel, even for twice the price! The staff are attentive, polite and empowered to make you happy. Add in the perfect central Amsterdam location where you can walk to everything and you have your perfect stay in Amsterdam!

A True Gem In Amsterdam
Pros:

After many visits to Amsterdam and staying at a half dozen other hotels, my wife, my son and I finally had the opportunity to stay at Hotel de l'Europe. All we can say is WOW! This historic property is in the dead center of this amazing city on a corner lot. That results in the rooms getting lots of light, which we love. The views in every direction are quintessential Amsterdam. From the greeting by the doorman, the friendly check-in ( and room upgrade ) by Kelly, the welcome drink offered by Eric and the way they reviewed my itemized bill in detail upon checkout, we were truly impressed with this property. The staff perfectly threads the needle between friendliness and professionalism. They manage to offer both the old-world charm that the Dutch do so well along with every modern amenity one could desire. There were many highlights including our lunch at Flore, the hotel's Michelin 2 ** restaurant. As part of the experience, one of the courses is served in the restaurant kitchen by the chefs. A splurge for sure but worth it. Breakfast is nicely done with any hot or cold item one could want. The views from the Brasserie Marie, where breakfast is served are also very nice. Housekeeping was also spot on with our room being kept clean and airy for our entire visit. I do need to make a special mention of our lovely and gracious butler, Maria Frank. For us, she was class and hospitality personified. The first thing she did was to provide us with a tour of the hotel. When we mentioned that we liked a certain cookie from a certain shop, she took it upon herself to go to the shop and present us with a tin of cookies. When we requested ice for our champagne bucket, she also brough a chilled bottle of champagne and swapped it out for our warm bottle so that we could enjoy the wine immediately. One day, when our favorite deck was technically closed, she gave us access anyway so we could enjoy the sunshine with a glass of Chablis. When we brought a dutch friend to visit us, Maria made certain that he felt welcome. I can't say enough good things about Maria and for that matter all of the staff we encountered. Hotel de l'Europe is hospitality taken to the next level. My only complaint is that 4 days was not long enough. We will stay longer next time.

Really Great Hotel Experience In A Great Part of Amsterdam
Pros:

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. All staff were great and we saw many of the same people every day. Always professional and friendly. Housekeeping was a high point too. Lots of thoughtful little surprises every day. Breakfast was really nice and Freddy’s bar was a great little spot for drinks. Highly recommend.

Old, old, old and smelly hotel with very small rooms and old furniture and no lighting.
Pros:

Very old hotel in desperate need of renovation.
Old carpets everywhere, in rooms and hallways, probably 100 year old carpets.
Old, old furniture in the rooms.
No lighting in the room or bathroom, can’t see anything.
The hotel is in good location but everything else is not worth anything for what they’re charging.
Would not go back or recommend it to anyone.

Pros:

This is one of the best hotels I have been to. I have been to so many luxury hotels around the world but this one stood out among the top 5 i have been to. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The facilities are great and the restaurant are top tier. I booked one of their signature suites and it is worth it.

Cons:

Maybe they could add TVs as my suite has no TV and this is the first time ever I see a room without one. However I don’t usually use TV anymore
