THE PROPERTY HAS ROACHES AND REFUSES TO REFUND WHEN YOU FIND THAT OUT. The desk clerk offered spray and to change my room, we changed rooms and when we pulled back the sheets to lie down they were stained. The hotel is a dirty dump.
DO NOT SPEND A DIME HERE.
Well-located in the center of Waikiki, next to the beach
My room had no windows and I was affected by the noise outside which never stops in the animated area of Waikiki
My daughter wanted a native hotel to support the local community. Our bedroom was on the corner off an EXTREMELY busy road. Cars and trucks were noisy late into the night and started up again around 5:00 am. The windows were not true windows but lattice windows with cracks to hear all noises. There is no parking available but you needed to go several blocks away to valet but take your car out as often as needed. On a positive note the location is two blocks away from the beach and many restaurants. Checkouts at noon.
Parking was the only challenge. Would be nice if it wasn't expensive or hard to find parking. The distance to the beach was awesome! Good food around and friendly people. The Hula night performance on Wednesday nights was awesome! They were so welcoming and friendly.
The Royal Grove is a great hotel. it's close to everything and it's always clean. It's a hotel with history. The staff are really nice and go out of their way to help you. I recommend this hotel all day long. And I've stayed at most of the brand hotels. but i have stayed here the last 5 times and will go back. The room i get is with the kitchenette.
You can not beat price, location and service here. I would compare this to a backpackers hotel, so set expectations. Does it need renovations? Yes, but hopefully they do it and keep all the charm it had when it open long ago. Wednesday night Hula night was wonderful.
Been going to this hotel for nearly thirty years now and have seen some changes.
Risa, (Operations Manager) got me a nice room in the part of the hotel I normally stay in. Even though it is close to the pool, it is fairly quiet and has the amenities I need. The kitchen area was clean and tidy with everything in working condition. Bed was comfy and the split system air conditioning is a god send - rather than those noisy 'box/window type' air conditioners.
I stayed for ten nights and noticed that housekeeping did now attend my room once. I am tidy and make my own bed each day, so it wasn't really a bother.
My room had access to a small courtyard (being on the ground floor). This was better than having a balcony and it was nice and private. I don't think the hotel encourages you to use the courtyard, as mine was fairly dirty with empty drink bottles and lots of leaves etc, but it didn't take me long to clear all that up. It was nice to sit out there in the mornings with a coffee.
Overall, my stay was pleasant and I intend booking again for May next year, as this hotel is good value for the money, a short walk to the beach and the staff are all very friendly.
Good vibe and location friendly people.
False advertising on the parking. It’s not included and a ten minute walk away and $47 more.
The property was well located and very clean. It was an older property but was value for money given it's location.
There was some issues with the wifi but were always resolved.
I had read these reviews before we got there so I knew it would be a challenge but it was worse than that. We were there for 10 nights so we had a good chance to look around the place and it was apparent we had the worse room in the place. Small, very noisy and run down. We were above a fast food restaurant that played music continually. The road noise was continuous as well. We had no balcony or view so had to hang out by the pool. We managed to get a electric jug and toaster by asking as they're not in the room. We worked out by watching others that there was a towel service and beach gear available but none of that was explained to us at check in. Some staff tried others were fairly neutral. Other guests were complaining about their room to us but I kept telling them that there were worse rooms.
The convenience and location
A little outdated could use some remodeling but overall good for the value
Close to the beach. Pool area was ok
Noisy cramped room. The only window looked straight out into a elevator and was directly above a fast food kitchen.
The location was great
The toilet water kept running
That it was close to the beach that’s all but it’s not safe for single women there
That if you are a women traveling alone this is not a safe property as there is no security around to help assist you in case of a emergency. As I had a man try to touch me and grab me right outside there property and I tried to ask for help and there was no one there available only a young girl who got scared and ran too from the front registration desk to some room I do t know but. I then found out that that guy that had done that to me was staying there at that hotel too so I then decided to leave for my safety and also there room doors are not safe either there is only a thin old rusty chain that holds this old ran down door because the door did not close properly on my room during my stay there at this hotel. So they pictures that are on here are definitely not why it actually looks like when you arrive there.
The location of Royal grove Waikiki was central among other hotels very close to the beach and shops. The staff were friendly.
Hotel is older and shows its age, although reasonably well maintained. Very conveniently located 2 blocks from beach and lots of restaurants / food stalls nearby. Only complaint is the very loud AC compressor on our balcony, luckily it wasn't that hot when we were there and we just turned it off.
