Dennis helped check us in into our room. Not only did he provide us with a list of nearby restaurants and attractions, he also upgraded us to a room with a view without us even asking. He went above and beyond and made my wife and I feel right at home.
PS the cookies made with almond paste are 10/10.
I arrived late in the evening after an hours-long airport delay. The front of house staff were incredibly kind and efficient that night and this treatment continued throughout the remainder of my week-long stay. Special shoutout to Dennis and Jemel at the front desk, who apparently don’t know how to say the word no. They accommodated every request (including a very late checkout to accommodate an unfortunately timed Zoom meeting), and did so with a smile. And thanks also to Bruce, who provided interesting and pertinent commentary while driving me to and from Winterthur in the hotel shuttle on the one day I found myself free. Another special shoutout to the housekeeping staff on the ninth floor - sorry I didn’t get their names. I returned each day to a well serviced room and each person was unfailingly polite when I saw them at work on the hall.
It’s been a long time since I have experienced service this professional, and I travel a lot. The service, coupled with the beautiful, historic Hotel DuPont, made my stay incomparable. Thank you.
There was a delay getting into my room but the staff was extremely helpful. Bruce T. made sure I got all of my stuff up to my room and made sure it was good before I checked in.
I truly appreciated the customer service that was given. Specifically Bruce T so gracious in making sure that we were probably taken care of.
The hotel is fabulous and spotless. The best part was Bruce who was not just open to showing us the best restaurants during our first time in Delaware but keeping us safe.
Hey great bell service, dining experiences, and front desk information. I was there for a wedding and everything ran perfectly smooth.
My bell man, Bruce, was kind and informative.
Bruce demonstrated exceptional customer service and a positive and seamless check in experience.
Bruce T in Guest Services went above and beyond for all our needs… Beautiful Hotel..!
Bruce was a safe and personable driver; enjoyed the ride.
Hot water did not work in my room in the mornings when I needed to get ready for a work day. Room service arrived, a $70 steak was super fatty to the point that I could not eat majority of it. Mini bar in rooms is not stocked at all, how is this a star hotel? Front desk doesn’t even have snacks at night. Check in experience was subpar. As a highest tier member of the rewards program, there was no acknowledgment or upgrade offered. The view in the room was of the HVAC next door. This simply is NOT a 5 star hotel. Just terrible.
I went to visit Hotel DuPont on May 26th for Mount Pleasant High School’s Prom and I came across a security officer, David, and when I went to go ask him a question, he was so kind, he had such a welcoming and good vibe, he gave me attentive listening, he understood my humor which made me very comfortable and made me feel great and he was doing his job so well, making sure everything was secure and good! I appreciated that and he made me love Hotel DuPont even more than I did before! :)
Hadn’t stayed here in over 20 years and what a delight - the renovation of the hotel was spectacular, preserving its Gilded Age elegance with modern convenience. The common areas and bar are elegant and classy, and the room I had was modern, spacious and comfortable (I found the bed especially comfortable - better than I find at many comparable hotels). Staff was very gracious and service oriented. Would have stayed a week of if I could.
Bruce T was incredibly helpful to our family with transportation going above and beyond. Super appreciative!
This hotel is running on its reputation. Large, comfortable and dated rooms. My room overlooked a ligh well with a family of pigeons and deteriorated ductwork. Restaurant breakfast service stands out as most disappointing feature - slow as could be, cold coffee, mediocre food.
This review is for Bruce, who was extremely helpful and friendly when giving us a ride to a meeting in the hotel's complimentary car service. It was a great way to start the trip and made us feel so welcome. Thank you so much, Bruce!
Bruce was great welcomed with A+ hospitality
It was good, great service and enjoyable experience
Had an amazing time. 10 of 10 experience. Great staff made our experience even better. Shout out to Bruce T who was so kind and helpful. Helped us with our luggage while we were a little hungover from a wedding the night before. Came into our room packed up our things for us, put our ironing board away, and brought all of our stuff to the car. He was amazing.
Disappointing Experience for a Business Conference – Not Worth the Cost
I recently stayed at the Hotel Du Pont while attending a professional conference. While the property holds a historic reputation, my experience as a business traveler was highly frustrating, and the room fell incredibly short of basic hospitality standards.
Upon checking into my room, the bathroom presented several severe cleanliness and plumbing issues. There was a disgusting amount of mold around the caulk in the bathtub. Worse, when turning on my first shower, rusty brown water came out, and the drain was visibly clogged with a brown sludge. Because it drained so slowly, I was standing in water past my ankles by the end of my shower. To the hotel's credit, I lodged a complaint and an engineer was sent to resolve the drain and brown water issue. However, because there was no indication that the tub had actually been cleaned or sanitized after the sludge backed up, I felt forced to wear flip-flops in the shower for the rest of my stay.
Getting a decent night's sleep was also nearly impossible due to the room's climate control. The thermostat kept auto-resetting to 69 degrees throughout the night, leaving the room freezing. I asked front desk staff to have someone resolve the issue and was assured it was fixed, but the resetting behavior never changed.
The room itself is incredibly dated and poorly designed for modern business needs, most notably due to a severe lack of useful, accessible power outlets to charge laptops, phones, and conference gear.
Navigating the hotel was equally frustrating due to the elevator situation. The two main elevators were incredibly slow, and one repeatedly broke down, resulting in outages that lasted for hours at a time. This caused major bottlenecks, especially when large groups of conference attendees were trying to move between floors.
The dining experience was also disappointing. The hotel restaurant was noticeably understaffed, leading to slow service, and the food quality was poor—even a basic order of oatmeal at breakfast was nearly inedible.
To top it off, the service at checkout was lackluster. I needed assistance from a bellhop to transport two heavy cases containing my conference display to the UPS store using a cart. I was told it would be a 20-to-30-minute wait. Because I was on a schedule, I was forced to haul these heavy cases to the store myself, one by one.
Finally, as a conference attendee and exhibitor, I found the event layout itself to be highly problematic. The session and breakout rooms were difficult to find from the main plenary room, which caused unnecessary confusion. Furthermore, the exhibition hall was completely separate from everything else, meaning it received next to no foot traffic. Because the exhibition space was just a small ballroom, it was poorly suited for modern electrical power needs, and the acoustics were terrible, making it incredibly difficult to network or speak with visitors.
Even with a conference room discount, the lack of basic maintenance, poor climate control, weak service, sub-par dining, and frustrating event layout meant this stay was absolutely not worth the cost. I expected much higher standards from this establishment.
Bruce was very helpful with us moving rooms, we were doing so while getting ready for an event and he made it much easier for us
