Exceptional customer service
Pros:

I checked in quite late after deciding last minute that I needed somewhere to stay. Unfortunately the room I had booked through Booking.com was no longer available and the hotel was already fully booked.

The reception team handled the situation brilliantly. They were honest about the issue and clearly wanted to find a solution. The first room option didn’t quite meet my needs, but they kept looking to see what they could do.

In the end they went above and beyond and very kindly upgraded me to the penthouse suite. I know that’s not something that happens often and I certainly wasn’t expecting it, but it was a really lovely surprise and made my stay incredibly comfortable.

Customer service like that is rare these days and it deserves recognition. A big thank you to the team at Leonardo Royal Southampton Grand Harbour for turning what could have been a stressful situation into a genuinely memorable stay.

Cons:

The customer service

Let to diminish despite glimmers that it was once a 5 star hotel.
Pros:

There are still glimmers that this was once a plush hotel but on the whole, it seems to have been let to suffer with very little updating in terms of decoration or maintenance. A broken shower door in our room, rusty stairs to the pool, dusty vents above the pool, a dirty lift and many other pockets of thick dirt. This could be really good again as the staff and service are great. Definitely not worthy of 4 stars currently but close with a bit of attention.

Overall a very nice hotel.
Cons:

We were given a room with a view over the harbour road. However the window was so dirty you couldn't really see anything.

Adequate but not what I expected
Pros:

The Hotel is lacking a thorough re-furbish. There are leaks in the dining area ceiling, the carpets are fraying in the bedroom, there was mould showing along the bath perimeter etc.

Cons:

As stated the Hotel is in desperate need of a refurbish. I stayed in this Hotel not long after it was opened many years ago. It has descended into becoming a rather sad shadow of itself.
