If you are wanting a quiet small hotel then this is perfect. It is quite isolated and not a lot to walk to.
The rooms are compact and very clean.
The owners are very hospitable and helpful.
Pool is beautifully clean.
Breakfast was ok. Pretty basic and the coffee wasn't very strong. Greek yoghurt was lovely.
We hired a car for 5 days and went around this stunning island.
You need a car or taxi to get to any beaches.
We visited a beautiful beach in lassi.
Clear waters and sandy.
Other beaches were charging 20€ for sunbeds.
I don't think we would return here purely on the location but i can understand why many others return.
Sat at the airport for a delayed flight so thought l would review now to pass the time.
Pretty much as everyone has said over the years - a lovely stay at the Ionis Hotel; a 2 star establishment but with 5 star service from Ilias and Peri who could not have done more for the residents and always on the go!
Virginia's masterful Greek coffees were a delight and it was a pleasure to drink at the pool bar of an evening.
The only regret was this morning - taxi was early and l rushed down with the suitcases and forgot to leave a tip for the cleaning staff - l am so very sorry and totally appreciative of how our rooms were cleaned, reflective of the high standards throughout the hotel.
Highly recommended for a true greek experience from start to finish.
We were aware this hotel was a bit isolated so no surprises there. This hotel has an amazing pool and gardens, The rooms are great, bed comfortable and towels changed regularly. Everything is clean and tidy. If you are looking for a relaxing week away you got it made. Food at the snack bar, good and reasonable. It is easy to get to Agostoli and we went twice and absolutely loved it. There is only one thing we missed, an authentic Greek taverna. Although there were two within walking distance the food was grilled meat and chips in both. This place is ideally situated to explore beautiful Kefalonia if you drive. We loved our time here and met some great people(you know who you are). Thank you to Illias and Peri who made our stay great. There will take you to the restaurants up the hill and pick you up for a small fee. 10euro was great for us. The restaurant up the hill Olive Lounge we thought a little pretentious but food was good and reasonable, the wine extortionate. We had a lovely time, thank you Illias and Peri you are stars. I cannot praise Verginia on the bar enough who made our stay so enjoyable. Thank you all for a lovely holiday.
Wonderful location with exceptional hosts who couldn't do enough for you.
We went to chill out completely after a few busy months and that's exactly what we did. The hotel has a really nice relaxed atmosphere, illyaus and Peri go out of their way to help with anything such as booking taxis, restaurants etc.
The pool bar is very reasonably priced good selection of drinks and enough choice of snacks with very friendly service!
We only came back yesterday and have already booked again for next year!
If you are looking for nightlife and a lot going on this isn't the place for you, if you want relaxation in beautiful surroundings with a few decent eateries within walking distance and more only a short taxi rise away this is the place for you!
Pool area lovely spotlessly clean, plenty of sunbeds should they be required, pool cleaned religiously every evening.
We don't really ever take breakfast so can't comment too much, however the coffee was lovely, and judging by other guests plates which were cleared the food must be good!
Couldn't recommend more highly a definite slice of greek hospitality at its best!
Can't wait to return next year
We had a wonderful two week holiday at the Ionis hotel. Ilias and Peri made us feel so welcome and couldn't do enough for their guests. The rooms were cleaned every day, plenty of fresh towels and bedding. Aircon and safety deposit box hire was included which was a bonus. The pool area is fantastic, it was kept spotlessly clean and there were always sunbeds available. There is also a snack bar serving pizzas, burgers, salads and drinks. There is a very reasonable taverna across the road serving souvlaki and gyros, a bakery, taverna and a pizza takeaway (where you can also eat in) about a ten minute walk away. There is a mini market and petrol station across the road. The hotel run a quiz night once a week, which was a fun evening. We had a car for the majority of our stay (which is recommended to explore this beautiful island as there is limited public transport). Taxis are reasonable, it cost us 15 euros for a journey into Argostoli . Ilias will take you up the hill to the restaurants at the castle (fabulous view) in return for a contribution towards the cost of petrol. I can't praise Ilias, Peri and the wonderful friendly staff at the Ionis enough for their exceptional customer service, nothing was too much trouble and they gave us lots of information about places to visit on the island. We will definitely return!
This is our second visit to this magical hotel situated in the southern end of Kefalonia, situated approximately 15 minutes from the airport.
The hospitality & warmth of the owners Ilias & Peri can only be described as exemplary.
We feel blessed to of stumbled across this hotel a couple of years ago & lucky to call Ilias & Peri our friends.
This is a 2 star hotel that delivers a 5 star service, Ilias & Peri are available night & day ensuring that all their guests get the most out of their holidays.
We hired a car for the duration of our stay & visited many parts of this beautiful island, it was always lovely to return to this special hotel to relax, chill & unwind.
We plan visiting again very soon & hope that if you book this hotel you will enjoy your vacation as much as we did.
Me (42) & my daughter (13), stayed here for 10 nights. The hotel is 2 stars, but echoing what others have said, the welcoming nature & personal services of Illias & Peri, who work tirelessly hard, to make sure you're happy, make the whole experience 4/5 stars. Room was cleaned daily & had a mini fridge, a kettle, hair dryer, a safe & air con. Breakfast was limited & a bit samey. The pool & surrounding area was lovely. Never had any trouble getting 2 sunbeds. Thursday night is quiz/bingo/karaoke night with dinner. Hiring a car is probably a good idea whilst staying here, but we got around using the local buses & taxis just fine. €2 bus to Argostoli & €15 by taxi to Platis Gialos/Costa Costa beach. Taverna across the road is good & cheap. Olive Lounge, Kastro Cafe & Mano A Mano Pizza worth visiting.
Excellent little hotel with very friendly and helpful management and staff. It is a little out the way so hiring a car is probably good if you want to see the Island. There is 1 bus a day to Argostoli but taxis are reasonably priced. The hotel has a bar which serves snacks and drinks all day. The owner Illias will give you a lift to the Olive lounge restaurant on the hill which is absolutely stunning. The hotel is only 2 stars but deserves a much higher rating for friendliness and facilities.
Please remember this is a 2 star hotel in a non tourist area with very little to walk to. We stayed as a family of 4 with 2 adult children. We had a car for the whole duration which is very much needed. I love being where the masses are not so this very much suited me/us. They owners can't do enough our air con wasnt working and within two days we had a super brand new digital unit installed.
Positives:
Quiet hotel
Large clean pool
Plenty of sunbeds we never had an issue.
Clean rooms and immaculate kept garden.
Excellent air conditioning.
Friendly helpful owners and bar staff who work hard all day.
Lovely outside area to eat breakfasti if you wished.
Lots of wonderful beaches to drive to
Located 15 mins drive to Argostoli
Negatives:
Breakfast is very basic. The yoghurt and honey and the freshly baked cookies was the best part. Hot water for the tea and coffee not hot enough.
This is a small family run hotel. Illias and Peri went above and beyond to ensure your stay here is stress free. They booked restaurants, trips and taxis for us, Illias even takes you to the local Olive lounge for a small tip towards petrol. The weekly quiz night and bingo at the hotel is also good. The rooms are small but adequate. The pool is large with plenty of comfy padded sunbeds, though you have to be up to secure a good spot on some days. The pool bar sells a variety of snacks and the tuna salad was delicious. The hotel is spotless the staff work tirelessly to keep it clean, rooms are cleaned daily and bedding and sheets changed regularly. There is not much nearby a couple of tavernas and a bakery and the excellent Kastro cafe and olive lounge up near the castle. If you want peace and quiet this is ideal.
4/5 is actually a bit generous and I don’t know exactly what pushed it up from a 3/5… but I think it *does* have a degree of unique charm.
It’s such a basic hotel in every way that I’d be disappointed if I had paid more for it. It is spotlessly clean and tidy, but it’s in need of some major updates and improvements. Rooms are very small and basic. Old fashioned (even by Greek standards), but functional and have most of the things you need.
Positives:
Twice weekly bus drop off in the town for €8 per person is a decent aspect.
Staff are very polite, helpful and friendly. Very much part of the hotel’s charm. Particularly the woman on the pool bar-absolutely superb knowledge and Greek salad making expertise!
Food is basic and pretty cheap. Not much choice of drinks, but again-fairly cheap for a hotel.
Pool-very pretty setting surrounded by mountains and in view of the impressive St George’s castle.
Nice taverna opposite the hotel with tasty, cheap food.
Beach is an hour walk away which is an interesting wander through some places of historical interest. Worth the walk.
30 min walk (climb) to the nearest tourist attractions, but again-well worth it for the views and restaurants.
Pool area and general clientele. Friendly, laidback atmosphere.
Isolation means it’s very quiet and peaceful.
Negatives:
In the middle of nowhere in lots of respects, so not much going on at all without getting a taxi.
Breakfast is shocking. Very limited options and often cold. Local honey and Greek yogurt saved it a tiny bit, but I can’t really say anything else good about it.
Dated and tired furniture around the pool.
Just returned from a week’s stay here, as a family of 4. Highly recommend, we had a lovely stay. We had a 2 bed apartment and had loads of room. It had a view of mountains/castle which we loved. The hotel is family run and they are great hosts. It is very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good. There is a large pool with a small section for younger children. As mentioned in previous reviews, there was an offer of a lift to the local tavernas and collect again. We had a hire car so we did not need to arrange but very nice to be offered. Hire car is recommended if you would like to further explore the island. We visited the grill house across the road which was really good for slouvaki/gyros and the local bakery which had a large selection of savoury and sweet options. What a lovely relaxing base to explore beautiful Kefalonia. Overall a lovely stay and would definitely return.
Thank you Ilias, Perri and the rest of the team. We hope to return some time. Love the Bennett family x
Another lovely relaxing week at the Ionis, this was our second time at the hotel. Overall it’s great value for money, it’s a 2 star hotel however overall standards are very good.
The pool area is superb, quiet and relaxing, if we go again we would definitely hire a car, there is so much to see on the island, temps reaching 42 degrees can be challenging, so the pool is a welcome relief
The only major issue is the WIFI, it’s terrible and frustrating as everyone uses WhatsApp to call how etc. The other annoying thing is his leaf blower Jesus it’s so loud and goes on forever, 10 mins later the leaves have blown back!. The local restaurant across the road is superb, (have the pork chop it’s huge) about 11 euros and comes with chips salad and dip. Good restaurants at the top of the hill, Olive Lounge is a must, Ilias the hotel owner will book it for you for around 7.30pm and take you up there and pick you up for petrol money, we gave him €10 for both ways. Pool bar has the usual snacks and stuff and a good selection of beers, local wine. Breakfast is ok, go early as it can get busy as it’s only a small area. Get the local bus across the road into Argistoli for €2, lovely air conditioned coaches, cheap as chips.
Rooms cleaned daily to a good standard, Thursday night they have a quiz with traditional Greek food, moussaka, meatballs including a vegetarian option which was delicious for €12 each, a good laugh and a chance to meet other guests
There’s a bakery 10 minute walk away, amazing fresh breads, cakes and sandwiches
Overall the Hotel is fantastic for a 2 star establishment, the housekeeping and cleanliness is 5 star.
The pool area is clean & and tidy, but for us, a real negative is people reserving sunbeds from 07.30am, why?
We had a main road room which is very noisy from traffic throughout the day and night whilst the pool view rooms are tranquil.
Breakfast is served from 07.30 until 10.30 am, which gives plenty of time to relax and enjoy it, the breakfast offering is fantastic and a credit to the hotel.
There was one organised event during our stay, Thursday evening quiz night with food, this was a very enjoyable night for us and only costs 12 euros.
Me and my daughter have just returned from a wonderful, relaxing week at this lovely hotel. As many others have already said, it’s a 2 star hotel with 5 star service. A 15 minute transfer from the airport; a superb, warm pool ( take your own pool towels ); plenty of sun beds and chairs; an excellent pool bar serving a variety of reasonably priced drinks and snacks ( salads; burgers; pizzas; toasties etc ); great restaurants up at the Castle ( Olive Lounge and Il Borgo - Ilias will book them and run you there and back for a small contribution to petrol costs ); and a 2 euro a night per room tourist tax ( considerably less than 4 and 5 star hotels ). Above all, Ilias and Peri are great hosts - incredibly hard working; helpful and always kind. It’s a small, quiet hotel which is very popular with repeat guests, and remember it’s only 2 stars, but if you want a great place to chill out and relax in the sun, then look no further. We can’t wait to return. Thank you Ilias and Peri!
My friend and I spent a wonderful week here celebrating 30 years of friendship. What can I say.. for me this is a perfect hotel! It was my 38th trip to Greece so I've seen a lot! Personally I enjoyed the breakfast, hot options as well as fruit, yoghurt, cereal and pastries. It's what you expect from a typical Greek establishment. Perhaps more. Pool was beautiful, staff friendly, spotlessly clean. Free air-conditioning is not the norm so very much appreciated by my friend (I never bother with it). We had a mountain view which I much preferred to a pool view. Bar was great, garden beautiful. I was also complimented on my Greek which made me very proud. All in all if you're looking for a quiet peaceful out of the hustle and bustle hotel, then this is for you. We were happy to organise our own transport etc but if you need Ilias' help he'll be only too pleased.
Stayed two weeks at this family run hotel, with a lovely swimming pool. A great base to explore beautiful Kefalonia. A nice poolside bar, with snacks available. Everything is kept so clean, good housekeeping every day. Amazing air con, which is in the price, also free safe. There is a hairdryer, kettle and fridge , much needed for your cold drinks , milk etc. Breakfast was nice, small cooked selection, yoghurt, some fruits, pastries, toast , cakes , croissants etc. A very enjoyable stay, thankyou.
There have been so many great reviews already written about this hotel it’s difficult not to repeat everything that has already been said.
We decided to book after reading all the positive comments and we are so pleased we did it is an absolutely gem of a little hotel.
Excellent service from all the staff and Ilias and Peri made us feel very welcome when we arrived, we knew then we were going to have a great holiday.
The hotel has a quiet relaxed and friendly atmosphere, everywhere is comfortable and spotless, the lovely pool area with its Sun loungers is a great place to top up your tan plus the tables and chairs which are in a shaded are a welcome place to sit.
Pool bar serves drinks and snack from morning until late and prices are very reasonable.
Ilias or peri will give you all the information about the local area regarding restaurants and places to visit and if required they are more than happy to take you to a couple of restaurants up the hill for a donation towards petrol money.
If you require a taxis or car hire you will get the best prices available if you arrange these with Ilias or Peri.
You can catch the bus across the road from the hotel to Argostoli
€2 each way and we never had any problems.
We had an amazing holiday so much so we booked to return again next year before we left the hotel which says it all.
we are well traveled and this is the first time in over 40 years we have ever wanted to return to the same place so quickly.
However ‼️ please note if you are looking for a hotel with music and dancing round the pool with lots of entertainment in and around the hotel then this would definitely NOT be the place for you.
If you want a peaceful holiday with like minded friendly guests then I would 💯 recommend this wonderful hotel.
A big thank you to Ilias Peri and all the staff for a fantastic holiday
and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Stayed for a week at the Ionis hotel (with Easyjet holidays) and had a great time. From the moment we checked in, Ilias and his wife Peri were always around and available. We arrived on a Thursday evening - quiz night by the pool bar - and a homemade mousaka & salad during the quiz was 12 euro. Quiz was fun - lots of people taking part. The quiz was the only organised evening event while we were there.
All the guests were really friendly - most evenings we would go out to eat then come back to the hotel for drinks at the pool bar and to chat to other guests. Bar prices were fair (3.80 euro for large Mythos beer / 5 euro for 1/2 carafe of wine).
There wasn't an option to eat dinner at the hotel (apart from on quiz night) but there was one taverna directly opposite, another (slightly nicer one - make sure you ask about the specials) about a 15 minute walk away - although if you mention it to Ilias, he will ring the taverna owner's father who will happily pick you up and drop you back to the hotel. There were also the 2 lovely restaurants up by the castle (Olive Lounge and Il Bourgo - slightly more expensive than the local tavernas but worth a visit). For a small petrol donation, Ilias will drive you up there at 7.30pm and collect you again at 9.30pm.
We walked up to the castle (about a 25 min uphill walk - but only 15 mins back!) - there's a gift shop and cafe up there as well as the castle. Just don't go on a Tuesday as it's all closed!
There's also a really nice bakery about 15min walk from the hotel that sells filled baguettes, lovely Greek savoury pastries, sweet pastries, ice creams and coffee - very good value. You can sit outside on a couple of tables to eat. And if you get thirsty on the way back, stop off at Cafe Cozi where you can sit in the back garden and have a large, ice cold Mythos for 2.50 euro!
As others have said, it is a 2* hotel - the rooms are fairly small and old fashioned and bathrooms even smaller (although our neighbour's bathroom was twice the size of ours!) But everything is clean and aircon etc works. The breakfast is pretty basic and samey - but there was plenty to eat each day.
The best bit about the hotel was the pool! It was big, clean, lots of sunbeds and parasols (with good availability - no one seemed to go out and reserve them early) - and all the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome.
For the price we paid, we couldn't have had a better holiday - thank you!
We spent 2 weeks here in June and were made to feel very welcome by Perri and Ilios, the owners. They go out of their way to make guests feel at home and also provide a taxi service to nearby restaurants. The rooms are basic and dated but very clean with towels and bedding changed regularly. Remember you are paying for a 2star hotel so don’t expect 4 star luxury. Included in your room for no extra charge is air conditioning and a safe. The pool is large and the area around it relaxing with a nice pool bar where snacks are available. To get about and see the island I would recommend hiring a car as although there is a bus stop outside the hotel the service is irregular and unreliable.Breakfast is included, a typically Greek selection of yogurt, honey, cereals, melon, pastries and bread but also fried and scrambled eggs, sausage and beans. The internet works very well all over the hotel. Overall, this is a great value hotel with many returning customers.
