the stay
breakfast sparse
Unfortunately the only positive was the time we left. Or anytime when we were not in the place.
It looked dodgy, it looked shut, the staircase was so narrow, dont bother booking unless you are size 16 or under. The person who greeted us eventually. has poor English and wasnt friendly, quite abrupt. 10 a.m on Sunday is a bit early. On the other hand given the nature of the place we should have left earlier
Location and cost
Room clearly not ready , Asian spice smell throughout the hotel , needs a paint and major uplift
Good location for our requirements.
Cleanliness, dated, room was not in good condition.
The staff were helpful and the lift worked.
I booked two rooms. On arrival in one room the cups needed to be washed before use, the windows didn’t lock and there was a leak in the bath. In the other room, the standard of cleaning was very poor (stain on the duvet cover, dirty drawers, stained chair, dirty mirror and surfaces), one window didn’t lock, the shower was broken but you could still shower and one window didn’t lock. There wasn’t anywhere to hang your clothes or even a picture on the wall. The room was grubby and plain. The breakfast wasn’t great either. We won’t be staying here again.
The breakfast is not up to much not much of a choice
Apart from the breakfast the shower in the room was very difficult to control the temperature but apart from that the room was very good
We chose it because we stayed here before and it was lovely. It seems to have changed hands and it is not altogether positive. The receptionist when we arrived was cheerful and helpful. We were early by an hour but our room was ready. We could not use the hotel car park but was told to go around the back of the hotel in a very small car park. We did get in though so that was good.
Our room was clean which was also nice but that is where it ends.
The bed was a small double, the mattress was hard and lumpy and uncomfortable. Pillows were not soft.
The kettle had a yellow bottom like something had been cooked in it. So no drinks.
The breakfast was very limited, being continental we expected to see some fruit, maybe some yoghurt. No, stale bread to toast, boiled eggs, 3 different cereals, coco pops, rice crispies, cornflake. Croissant and blueberry muffins. The coffee was percolated and was not to my taste. Tea which hubby had. Apple juice or orange juice. Tap water. There was one member of staff sat in the room but he did not say anything other than morning. No indication to say to help yourself. We just did it.
The dining area was filthy, food on the chairs and floor, the table where the coffee was dirty. We were there at 8am so the first ones in. The skirting board was spattered with filth and the cloth chairs smelt musty.
The only positive thing was the friendly smile of the receptionist upon arrival.»
This stay was an absolute nightmare and caused me an enormous amount of stress. I came here hoping to rest, but left with a severe headache and in tears. I never expected to encounter such unacceptable conditions in England.
Here are the main issues:
* Unsanitary conditions & extreme filth: The whole room was dirty, especially the walls and the radiators. The windows were so filthy that it was impossible to see the River Medway outside.
* Dangerous plumbing: The hot water was dangerously hot to the point of burning your hands. Because of the traditional two-tap setup, the only way to wash your face or hands without getting burned was to constantly switch between cold and hot water.
* Dampness & poor ventilation: The room was extremely damp and humid, and the ventilation system did not work at all.
I am attaching photos to prove these claims. I strongly advise avoiding this establishment.
The bed was very comfortable and I slept well.
The view of the river was nice.
The location was very good for me. Everything I needed was within walking distance.
The shower was useless. The bathroom is in need of up grading.
No toiletries were on offer.
The room itself is in need of redecorating.
Bed linen and towels were clean. Beds comfortable. Croissant at breakfast was good.
Both my friends had problems with the showers, one with water either too hot or too cold but you couldn't mix it. The other leaked from the hose. Our rooms were not really clean with bits and fluff. The basin was cracked, taps needed mending, windowsill crumbling paint, one of my lights didn't work. The toaster caught fire and the toast wouldn't eject, the employee wasn't interested and didn't help or replace it.

The bed was comfortable
After a long journey, on arrival there was not a member of staff available to book in and the auto booking screen did not work, we waited almost 10 minutes to be booked in. Car park not in use so had to use a different carpark, which was free but had very steep shabby steps to climb up to the hotel. The room was very bleak, no character and decor was very grey and dingy, also, shower curtain pole was covered in rust and mould around the edge of the bath. Now the continental breakfast... consisted of , if you eat any of it, cold boiled egg, cereal, toast, croissants , cheap watery yoghurt, pre-packed sweaty cheddar or red leceister . A couple came in and cleared the breakfast bar of everything except cereals and toast and then left ! When we did see a member of staff the other patrons were told that the croissant were ordered in and there would not be any more available and that they could not boil any more eggs. Plenty of people left hungry and disappointed. On check out the staff were still very ellusive so put our keys behind reception and left.
very reasonable price, good location, bed was comfortable
The shower hose needs to be replaced, it leaks and has come to the end of its life
