Just for a night
Pros:

The view from the room on the river.

Cons:

We bought some cleaning tissues as the table and handles felt sticky and mucky.
Elevator entrance is not really appealing when you step inside...dirt collected between the door entrance. Carpet bit mucky. For 85 pound a night better staying in a P.I. beds were quite small but most unattractive were the bedsheets...washed but with vague brown/yellow stains.

St George served a purpose, could do with a make over though. Sadly wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
Pros:

The property was in an ideal location for the train station, just a short walk down the road.
Appreciated the lovely river view from our room (river view room booked)
Staff that we saw (not many) were polite, professional and courteous.

Cons:

I’m not one to moan or complain, we get what we pay for and St George hotel served the purpose we required it for, but -
There was a very steep, uneven stone stairway from the car park to the entrance of the hotel, didn’t notice if this information was included in hotel description, not ideal for anyone with mobility issues.

Booked a small room which was a described, however,
certain lights didn’t work in room, fan front was broken off (although it worked) still should have been changed.
Bed mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable.
Probably due to the river but unsavoury bathroom/drain smells at times.
In very small print on our second morning when we went for breakfast was a sign stating no longer do they provide cooked breakfasts, although these were included in our booking cost, and the continental breakfast was poor.

Pay extra and stay at a travelodge
Pros:

Good Location ..good view from room.

Cons:

The whole place is very run down car park at the back is accessed by some steep steps covered with beer cans, condoms, past the smelly dustbins. The hotel smells of damp. The lift was filthy. The room was run down. The breakfast room was dirty.

Hotel is not as attractive for returning guests as it once was
Pros:

Usual comfort in the room which was a positive

Cons:

Breakfast is now continental and no cooked option - for the price paid this was very disappointing. This will alter my considerations for future stays in the area as this was my go to hotel.

A Fawlty Towers weekend experience
Pros:

Nothing comes to mind

Cons:

The lift wasn't working, which isn't ideal for a couple in their 70s
There was a trip around the block to access the car park, with a steep climb up several flights of uneven dangerous, use at your own risk steps, that would be a challenge to a mountain goat.
The heating wasn't working after the first evening in our superior room (superior to what, sleeping in a shop doorway) so we were offered the use of an electric fan heater. Which obviously couldn't be used in the bathroom., so we declined..
We were eventually offered the use of another less superior room down the hallway which were assured the heating was working . We accepted the downgrade because the time was wasting away.
The lad on reception and the maintenance man I dealt with at the time were as helpful as they could be, but I did detect a smirk that they were trying hard not to burst into laughter.

Not the best stay, glad it was only one night & wasnt worth the £83 i paid.
Pros:

I cant think anything of the breakfast as a cooked breakfast was not available, we found that out on arrival. Only a continental breakfast was available so we decided to go elsewhere after we checked out.

Cons:

Didnt like the fact the bathroom was just a wet room with the shower right next to the toilet. If anyone needed to use the toilet after the shower had been used the floor would be wet. Also the double bed was sunk in the middle & not comfortable.

Pros:

Very good location for our visit. Room was spacious and clean. Bed was very comfortable and came with a lovely view. Lots of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits available in the room. Reception staff very welcoming and polite.

Cons:

The room was actually quite cold when we stayed, there was a heater which did help though. Continental breakfast was very basic and minimal. Slightly difficult finding the car park and hotel.
