At the Laurel…Jorge is such a great host! The servers were excellent and well mannered! The appetizers were next level…food was out of this world!!!
The Talbott was recently refreshed and the makeover is chic! I stayed in room 1605, which is a quiet room on the top floor and tucked away from the main hallway. This was a larger room with a king bed, couch, and a chair. One unique touch was the overhead recessed lighting. In the room there are bathrobes, Nespresso machine, Grown Alchemist products and plenty of outlets. I pleased to see the addition of the water stations located near the elevators on each floor. Your amenity fee includes 2 drinks at the bar in the lobby, which includes non-alcoholic options like Evian sparkling water. Come check out the updated Talbott!
No bellhop. No one at desk at check in and no way to call. Then someone appeared from the back. Noted my Marriott status and gave me drink coupons. Stated didn't need breakfast coupons "because the restaurant knows." Well they didn't so next morning had to go back to front desk with waiter and get the coupons from a different receptionist. We had breakfasts + one dinner in restaurant "Laurel" that were fine not memorable.
Used to be apartments so rooms spacious. Having said that, components already not working with no illumination from light on headboard and rack in shower already loosening from attachment to tile. Purportedly recently renovated so to already have decay is not a good sign. Only 2 elevators but pretty prompt. Housekeeping never restocked washcloths, an odd thing to leave out.
Decor a little precious and not too functional. Only a freestanding wardrobe to hang items, with not much space leftover after the provided robes.
Price was good. Value = quality over cost only 3 starts as quality 2 stars and price 4 stars.
The Talbott is in a great location downtown Chicago within walking distance to most of the places you'll want to visit while in town. The hotel itself is beautifully renovated. The staff that I encountered were well-informed on the area, helpful and friendly. I stayed on this visit using Marriott Bonvoy points, and received a nice upgrade upon check-in, so that may also influence my opinion a bit. The room was large, bed comfortable, and bathroom upscale. I will certainly stay here again when I return to Chicago next.
We stayed here as a family with our kiddo on a pull out bed. The hotel is unique and lovely. Service was responsive and quick. We loved that the hotel staff allow local folks and dogs to visit in the lobby. The restaurant on site was very nice and while there was no ice in the hotel, the restaurant was happy to provide some. Beds were comfortable. The room was clean and they were generous with towels. We did wish the room had a refrigerator for our use rather than stocked with bar items but that is a personal preference. In room coffee was Nespresso and creamers and sugar were provided.
What a lovely hotel in the Gold Coast. Of all the time I've spent in Chicago over the years, I have not really spent much time in this neighborhood. I'm glad my wife and I got down here for the night- I had never heard of this hotel but it was recommended in the Bonvoy app. It's a unique and charming hotel right in the center of the fun in the Gold Coast.
There's plenty of parking in the area, so it's easy to commute in from the suburbs and leave your car. The staff were awesome- front desk folks took some great pictures of my wife and I after we asked them to get a shot. Bar/restaurant is really classy- great food and drinks, albeit a bit pricey.
Room was huge and we slept incredibly well after we came back from dinner. Beds at all Bonvoy properties are epic, and this one was no exception.
Overall, excellent property. I would love to stay here again on our next trip down to the city.
The third room they moved me to was tolerable.
The first two rooms were not normal.
The television is perhaps the newest thing but I had no idea how to make it work, and the people sent up to show me couldn’t make it work properly either.
No luggage rack in either very small room.
No clock in either room
Neither in-room phone worked. I had to call the hotel from my cell phone to speak to the front desk.
The fancy Nespresso coffee maker didn’t work in one room, did in the other for coffee. Neither one will simply heat up a cup of water for tea. They brought me an electric kettle.
The ventilation in one room blows right onto you on the bed. There’s no way to turn the fan off without also turning the heat off. Turn the thermostat down and you have the fan blowing cold on you.
The bathrooms- let me tell you about the bathrooms: the first room had no grab bars and no hand-held shower. Not a safe situation. The second room, so-called accessible, had these. However it was not a shower stall but a tub, retrofitted with shower functions. The controls for the shower were low, at the level of the spigot for the tub. To regulate the water temperature you’re bent over, reaching for the knobs at the level of your knees, your back is under the flow of water from the shower nozzle.
They finally put me in an ‘upgrade’ room. Nice, large, normal, accessible, comfortable, functional room to which I brought the tea kettle and luggage rack they’d brought me previously; functional except for the telephone and the same lousy tv. Housekeeping tidied up while I was at breakfast. I went upstairs to gather my stuff for the day and discovered that the now the toilet didn’t work. The tank was not filling, the water was wastefully running. On my way out I reported this to the front desk who assured me they’d send the engineer. Eight hours later when I returned – guess what! Not fixed. I reported again to the desk person and told her I was going out for dinner and I’d need a functioning toilet when I got back for the night.
The entrance areas are attractive; a small sitting room on one side, the restaurant, a popular place, on the other. The staff was pleasant and tried to be helpful and accommodating. This was appreciated, even if not always successful. Marriott Hotel brands are usually quite reliable all over the world. This one may be trying to be too fancy for its own good.
My room was huge and it was immaculate. When I would order and ask for additional items like towels and soap, the service was fast and polite. The location is excellent - so much around to see and do - restaurants, shopping, etc. The restaurant in the lobby was convenient and the breakfast I had there was tasty. I would absolutely stay here again.
Very nice experience! The hotel is close to everything and the atmosphere was relaxed.
The Talbott is tucked away on a quieter street just seconds from all of Chicago’s best. The lobby, while small, is cozy and welcoming. Check in was fast and easy. We had a large room that was spotless. There were multiple outlets all over the room which is something that I often find lacking in hotels. The bathroom was a decent size, well lit and the shower was large walk in, tiled and probably one of the least disgusting hotel showers I have seen. The hotel has been updated but it’s clear they were retro fitting the space and not starting new. It works though as the room gave off a modern, cozy vibe. The room was quiet and had a doorbell to light for service. The only issue we encountered was one of the 2, very small and old elevators did not work our whole stay. Seeing as other people commented on that before we were there, this is clearly an on going issue. This led to crazy long waits for the elevator. We also had requested extra towels one day and we had to repeatedly call and ask for them as they never arrived. We were only on the 4th floor so we mainly walked so be prepared. Perhaps ask for a low floor.
We have been guests of The Talbott Hotel for —gasp— 45 years— yes, before many of their new young employees now were born and long before it was on The Marriott radar. We became personal hospitality acquaintances with the original owners in the early 1990s, our luxury B&B was their small town, luxury inn “getaway” and The Talbott was our “big City” escape. We were loving hospitality family with all the Talbott concierge, front desk and bellman for all these decades. 🥰 The Talbott’s attached bar/restaurant came and went, it hardly mattered, though it’s always been perfectly OK. This week we returned and are happy to give the restaurant a 5 star review after this visit! I am delighted to report today that the restaurant has never been better, with excellent options for discriminating palates. The roasted mushroom toast was AMAZING, thank you Chef also for the accompanying salad with multicolored carrots, so delicious. Edgar, the young man who seated and waited on our table was particularly impressive. As for the hotel: Front desk at check in was updated about a year ago and is very upscale and hospitality was elegant and polite while being connected and personal, notably charming. Rooms are quiet, clean, with a quality Bluetooth music box, iPhone jack bedside. Rates are right on. Service all the way around was impressive, like the young woman who graciously offered two old folks like us a couple of umbrellas as we stepped out for dinner into unexpected rain this October night. You do not need to spend $1000-$1700 a night to stay beautifully in Chicago, just stay at The Talbott Hotel ! And WALKABLE TO EVERYWHERE!! It is with great affection and with Talbott memories of concierge Gene, doormen Charles, Perry, and Dwayne, and so many others over the decades, who have made our life a joy in Chicago, that I share this review. Love and gratitude , Robert and Elaine
Nice property with good amenities.
Staff was rude and unresponsive to small needs including body wash for the room. Room was not ready upon arrival at 5pm when it was noted that room would be ready at 4pm.
We stayed here three nights for the Chicago marathon. It was very centrally located for viewing family members in the race. The overall location is great; it’s in a quiet area so we slept well. This is hands down the most pet friendly hotel I have ever been to! They even offered to bring my Chihuahua up a dog bowl of fresh water! The staff was very courteous and we had a lovely stay. The room was small but that expected in a historic building. Our only issue was with housekeeping; we had an empty body wash bottle and an empty lotion bottle- plus no wash cloths one day. As a Titanium Marriott member, we travel a lot. (Rarely are there housekeeping issues. ) One suggestion, there was a Nespresso machine in the room. Have an electric tea kettle ( w some tea bags) for people who don’t care for that very strong beverage. We would stay here again on another trip to Chicago. We would have given them 5 stars - the housekeeping issue was our only hiccup.
Water station on every floor, 430 to 530 cocktail of the day.
The location is amazing and a beautiful neighborhood. Grateful for the hospitality
Very good location and well done renovation of an historic building. Accommodations were comfortable and spacious, and our room was quiet.
Just a couple of small quibbles: our view in a room ending in 09 was of a solid wall. I would request a view room next time. And they don’t offer bottled water at the desk like most other hotels we’ve stayed at do. I was told to go to the lobby bar, which only offered a giant glass bottle of water for $14.
I want to give this lovely hotel a 5 so badly. The only thing standing in my way is the very loud noise coming from the alley, to which we abutted, woke us early (by 5:30am both mornings we were there) We were on the third floor. We were upgraded (without asking) to a wonderful suite, huge by big city hotel standards, actually much larger than my first apartment! It was beautifully appointed but the best part was the bedding. I wanted to take it home with me! Awesome sheets and pillows. Bathroom had two sinks, which was nice for the two of us. Strangely, no light in the shower stall and the water was very hard to regulate. Every single staff member with whom we came in contact was professional and helpful. The location of this hotel was perfect!
