Thankfully quick stopover couldn't wait to leave
Pros:

Where to start, guy with dreadlocks booking us in no customer service from eye rolling to been damn right rude. Carpets in hallways absolutely vile, smell of bleach in our room gave me headache to musky smell everytime ac unit came on. On check out they doubled our resort fees to which we had to go back to get refund. AVOID AT ALL COST

All shabby and no chic!
Pros:

This place is definitely not a 4 star!!! Far from it!!!
The only thing good about this hotel was the location!
The whole place is disgusting, from the dirty, rotten carpets- that are heavily stained, throughout the corridors to the awfully unkept bathroom suites, with their horrendously old taps on the shower and the cheap plastic shower curtains.
The resort fees are an absolute scam!! Stayed here with our son who is 18 so we were told we couldn’t use the facilities at the clevender, as they’re only for 21 and over- so basically I paid £41 per night ( 3 night stay) for drinking the 2 bottles of water in the room!! We only had our room cleaned once whilst we were there and we had to keep asking for fresh towels!! How can you get away with charging for facilities that we aren’t allowed to use and we didn’t even receive basic housekeeping!! Absolutely dumbfounded how this can be allowed- stayed in way better 3 star hotels!!!
Spend your money elsewhere, on somewhere clean and better managed!
Being very polite with giving 2 stars- 1 for location and the other for the weather being good

Location and staff are the only good thing
Pros:

The staff and location is the only good thing about this hotel. The carpet is so dirty and grubby leading you upstairs and towards your room, major need of carpet cleaner. The room itself was very grubby feeling and would benefit from a deep clean and refurb. The plugs felt very dodgy and I gave up trying to use them .the mattress and pillows were good . The bedroom window was very dirty on the outside like it hadn't been cleaned in years . Dodgy nails on floor between bathroom and bedroom . The staff were super nice and the location was superb

Poor experience overall, wouldn’t recommend!
Pros:

We arrived quite late after a long flight from uk with two other couples. The location was good to visit Art Deco area.
We were given rooms behind reception.

These rooms were spacious but they were not clean. The toilet barely flushed, lamp didn’t work, curtains didn’t block bright light from outside, the bed cover was a bit of foam between two sheets!

Folks on reception started shouting at about five in morning so we got little sleep.

Unfortunately had not checked reviews since this was booked by an agent.

Very Accommodating Staff - Historic Hotel
Pros:

Historical Art Deco Hotel. Cute cozy but not very modern. The Staff is great and accommodating. We originally booked the Clevelander but the music at night (all night) was just too much for us. The management understood and moved us to the Essex House which is directly behind the Clevelander. The room (suite) was nice but the bathroom was very small. The pool access is over at the Clevelander and it is open to the public, not just guests. There is not much for pool lounging options.

All that said, it met our needs. We spent most of our time out at the beaches and exploring restaurants and bars.

Avoid Room 303 actually avoid the hotel
Pros:

What can I say , great position on Miami Beach “that’s it”. On arrival the gentleman on the desk with dreadlocks was so rude and unprofessional, to the point I think the drugs he was on were wearing off and wanted a argument or a fight . The rooms are below par , rooms dirty , stains on the beds , air con appalling, leaking pipe work in the room damaging our clothing, laminate floor coming up, room not always serviced over the 5 day stay. The noise from the Clevelander which is next door is unbelievable (music until 4am) . Please avoid unless you like staying in a crack house. Just did not feel safe staying there.

Unresolved maint. Issues.
Pros:

Went to my room. AC is cranked and it is 60 f in my room. Can not adjust or turn off thermostat

Inform staff who says they will fix.

Return to room that evening. “Fixing” means disabling the thermostat so it will not turn on or off and will not work

Inform staff the next day who says they will fix it.

Fixing means you can not adjust or turn off thermostat. The same as it was originally.

The staff seems indifferent at best and dull witted.

Solution. Check out of hotel.

Positives. Very good location.

Great stay
Pros:

Everyone at The Essex, The Clevelander and Becon Bitch is so nice and friendly. Both hotels are related. All 3 locations are clean and priced right. Our room was nice and clean. Only wish our windows opened for fresh air. Our first interaction was with Christy and Joseph. Great customer service and super helpful! Along with Becon Bitch. Breakfast is free here if stay at one of the hotels mentioned. They are nice and a fun crowd. A must stay and will would do again 😊

Terrible experience
Pros:

Unfortunately my review will not be a good one. I had booked 3 rooms for myself for my birthday. Upon arrival, there was some confusion about my reservation. However, the front desk person was able to find all three rooms when I gave the reservation numbers. Our rooms were close to each other, which was nice.
When walking into my room we immediately noticed a musty smell and saw a large hairball on the floor that seemed to be left by the cleaners. We also noticed there was pee all over the toilet seat and a layer of dust on the entertainment shelves. We called down to the office to complain when I had the hot water running for 15 minutes and it still hadn't gotten warm. They told me they would send someone up. By the time they came, it started to get warm (around 30 mins since turned on). My friend then had to take a cold shower because we were on a time crunch and I had turned off the water.
Later that night (2:00am) my friend and I got back to the hotel and I noticed the door was not able to close. I called down to the front desk and was told someone would be up soon. I realized the person told me the wrong room and called back down to make sure they came to the right room. The person that answered the phone was extremely rude asked me why I had not noticed it earlier and told me that I was unable to move rooms because there was no other rooms. I told her I was not asking for that unless my door would not close.
The person that came up was more pleasant. They had difficulty closing it and eventually slammed it shut. I told them I was going to try, and continued to have difficulty unless I really slammed the door, but still could not lock it. I did not feel comfortable doing that because my friend was right next door trying to sleep. They eventually said this was a safety issue and they would go see if there was a room available and call back. We packed and they called shortly after to move us from 308 to 303. Before they left I thanked them for moving us and they said "well you wouldn't have been happy unless I did".
We had settled in a little and we're falling asleep and we got a knock on the door (3:00am). I opened the door and the person asked me if I could "show what was wrong with the door" I told them I didn't think I needed to show them but proceeded to walk back to my old room. I pushed open the door and they said "wow that's not safe" I responded "yep" and told them I was going to bed and walked away.
The room we got moved into didn't lock either. At that point I wasnt going to complain anymore. We tolerated it but didn't feel completely safe. I seriously considered leaving and booking at another hotel, but my other friends were there too, and I didn't want to inconvenience them.

A hotels main concerns should be cleanliness and safety and I felt both of them were extremely lacking.

Pros:

This place was definitely not what I expected. The room was very. small, the bed was small too. The bathroom had drops of paint everywhere. It looks like they remodeled but put no love into it , even the fake plant in the room hadpaint all over it. There was not a mini fridge in the room. The iron was stained and it almost ruins my dress. There was not counter top in the bathroom which it left no place to set out our stuff . The blow dryer was literally falling aspart. Will not stay there again.

Pros:

Property was clean and close to the beach. Expedia’s pictures vs what we actually got totally different photos showed a separate sitting area. When I asked the staff i was told it’s only available for king bed rooms. We had two queens so we didn’t have the extra space we needed.
