Rooms are recently remodeled/upgraded, very nice. We were located on the back side of the building, so we had a nice view of the lawn/garden... the rooms facing the parking lot would not be so nice. Great location! Walk to restaurants. Hotel was very quiet at night. Staff is super helpful.
Breakfast was pretty much standard issue. They are working on the hallways/corridors for a much needed upgrade, All in all, there was nothing negative about this hotel, they are not skimping on maintenance which is nice to see.
Modern new interior. Supportive bed and pillows. Cleaning service was great and comes every day. There is plenty of silence, the walls must be thick. Generally felt safe at night as well.
Scent of the mopping soap is pretty strong. When we arrived our room wasn’t ready even though it was after check-in.
The location.
Want to start by saying that my review has nothing to do with the room itself.
My friend and I, both young female travelers, booked this hotel because of its convenient location near the beach and other places we wanted to visit in Encinitas. Check-in was smooth, and we enjoyed our first night there. We did notice stacks of flooring panels in the hallway along with signs apologizing for the appearance, but that didn’t seem like a major issue.
The reason for the one star review happened the following morning.
After leaving for a hike and coffee, we returned in the early afternoon to find three men standing around our room. Our hotel door was wide open while one man was installing flooring, another was standing beside him, and a third was nearby. When we approached, they asked, “Is this your room?” We said yes, and they told us it would take five minutes. After waiting closer to ten minutes, we asked to go back into our room. One of the workers asked if we could leave the door open, but we said no because we needed to change.
What was most upsetting was that no one from the hotel had informed us ahead of time that work would be happening directly inside our room while all of our belongings were there unattended by us. Later that day, after we left again, we returned to find our door had been opened once more while we were gone.
We spoke with the front desk agent, who was very kind and understanding. She informed us that management was already aware of the situation and that the manager had supposedly been supervising the workers. However, at no point did anyone identify themselves as the manager, explain why this work had to occur during our stay, or apologize directly to us. I also requested contact from management and, now a week later, have still not heard back.
I understand that maintenance and renovations are sometimes necessary, but entering or leaving occupied rooms open without prior notice is unacceptable, especially for two young women traveling alone.
Location
Rooms offered under this price were small with very small beds and not remodeled. Had to pay the extra fee for a comfortable room. Breakfast was very limited. Property under construction.
I liked the location of the property. Close to shops and walking distance to Moonlight beach.
The facilities were not what I was expecting. The motel is pretty run down for the price they charge. The rooms are small, bathrooms are small. No real luxury. The facility is old and can use a renovation.
The location was nice-close to restaurants, shopping and the beach.
The hotel is dilapidated, dirty and extremely disappointing! They are remodeling the property but they do not mention this when you book. The building material and trash are strewn about, there was actually some worker using a DRILL until 9pm one night! Linens are thread bare-truly ridiculous accommodations! I tried to get booking.com to help but not help there as i desperately wanted to get out of my reservation. The hotel did not even answer booking.com email to help. DO NOT reserve at this pathetic hotel nor with Booking.com. Just terrible!
The staff was very nice.
Construction was going on while we were there in the hallway in front of our room. It was never shared with us prior to arriving and when we got there they said it would finish by 4pm and then it went on past 8pm and I couldn’t fall asleep. It was a hazard as they were removing flooring outside of our room. I’ve never experienced anything like it before and was surprised they would do business this way. Very disappointing.
