The breakfast buffet was nice to have available. Love the waffle maker.
Can't think of anything.
I checked into the Fairfield by Marriott in Bedford Park, Illinois, on August 8, 2026, after reviewing the online photos of the rooms and selecting the property for its convenient location near an event I needed to attend. I do not believe a rate of $345 per night is justified by what we encountered.
I was shocked by how small the room was. The tiny bathroom—essentially the size of a closet—had the sink located outside the bathroom itself, which is highly inconvenient for anyone who needs to use it during the night and risks waking the other occupants. The room was listed as having two beds and accommodating four people. We later discovered there was no sofa bed, and rollaway beds are not permitted. As a result, four adults were expected to share two small beds for the entire night.
The first room we were assigned, on the fifth floor, had a noticeable bad odor. While I was still out in Chicago, I called the front desk to request a room change for when my guests and I returned. I waited on hold for 45 minutes with no resolution. I hung up and called again, only to be subjected to the same repetitive hold music interrupted by recorded messages promoting the hotel’s “philosophy of excellent customer service.” Excellent service, indeed. I eventually gave up.
When we returned, I requested a change in person. The night staff assigned us a room on the first floor right next to the back door, where we were subjected to the constant noise of motorcycles and loud car music throughout the night. One of the pillows had a red stain—sauce or something unidentifiable—on it. I discarded it and made do with a single pillow. My third guest was forced to sleep on the floor using four comforters; he woke up the next morning in considerable physical discomfort.
All of this for $345 per night.
The following morning on August 9, 2026, I spoke with the front desk about our experience. The representative apologized repeatedly and, at my request, extended our checkout until 4:00 p.m. at no charge (the hotel normally assesses $20 per additional hour plus parking fees). She also added points to my Marriott membership as a goodwill gesture. While these gestures were appreciated, they could not salvage the overall bad experience. That is why I am rating this stay only 2 out of 5.
It was 10/10

The staff was great. Upon arrival, the overnight staff member told me that the room I booked wasn’t available so I ended up in a double bed but would be a le to switch rooms in the morning. I was so tired, I didn’t care. I was ready to go to bed. Sure enough, the next morning, I went down and talked to the morning shift person and she took care of me. Got in my king suite and everything was all good. Oh btw, because I originally had booked just a king bed and it wasn’t available, the overnight staff member upgraded me to a king suite free of charge. You can’t beat that!
It was a little further from downtown Chicago than I thought but still it was good.
Very clean, staff was welcoming and helpful.
