Exceptional Stay & Recommended
Pros:

I stayed at Die Hochkönigin in Maria Alm for a week in August 2025 and it was outstanding. The staff are professional and at the same time very friendly. Nothing ever felt forced, just natural and genuine. The design is beautiful, modern but still warm, and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable.

The views of the Alps are incredible. You find yourself stopping just to take it all in. The spa is excellent and I really liked how it is set up with separate family areas and adult only zones so it never feels crowded or noisy.

What really made the stay special was the Hörl family who run the hotel. Their hospitality gives the place a real sense of community. You do not feel like a customer but more like a family friend who has been invited to stay.

It is a world class hotel. I cannot wait to return in winter and experience it in a different season.

„Wir hatten einen gemischten, aber insgesamt entspannenden Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel. Die Ankunft und der Empfang waren erstklassig, man fühlte sich sofort willkommen. Das Highlight war zweifellos der Spa- und Poolbereich, der keine Wünsche offenließ – wirklich ein Traum zum Entspannen.
Die Speisen waren durchweg sehr gut, ein großes Lob an die Küche.

Cons:

Leider wurde das kulinarische Erlebnis durch die Räumlichkeiten im Restaurant getrübt, die viel zu warm waren, was das Abendessen anstrengend machte.

Der größte Kritikpunkt betrifft jedoch den Service. Während die Rezeption super war, gab es im Restaurant und abends auf der Terrasse erhebliche Mängel. Der Service wirkte oft lustlos, unaufmerksam und unprofessionell. Es fiel auf, dass der Restaurantleiter eine sehr unsympathische und arrogante Art an den Tag legte, die sich anscheinend auf das gesamte Team überträgt oder scheinbar Dienst nach Vorschrift hervorruft.
Besonders am Abend auf der Terrasse empfanden wir den Service mangelhaft.
Das Zimmer war in Ordnung, hatte aber keine Klimaanlage. Bei geöffnetem Fenster war der Lärm von der Hauptstraße unschön. Ein weiterer Minuspunkt war die sehr kleine Toilette.
Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass das Hotel ein großartiges Potenzial hat, insbesondere durch den tollen Spa-Bereich und die gute Küche. Jedoch müssen der Service und das Klima im Restaurant dringend verbessert werden, um den Preis zu rechtfertigen.“

Beautiful Family-Friendly Hotel in the Mountains
Pros:

We stayed at this hotel for a family getaway and overall had a very relaxing experience. The location is simply stunning, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Even though it rained throughout our entire stay, the scenery was still beautiful, and the hotel provided a Sommer Card for activities in the Hochkönig area—which would have been fantastic had the weather cooperated.

The amenities are perfect for families with children of all ages. Our kids loved the play areas, and the family spa was a wonderful touch, offering a chance to unwind together. Everything felt well thought-out for parents and children alike.

The only downside was the dining arrangement. At the restaurant, guests are assigned a specific table and must sit there for the entire stay. Unfortunately, we didn’t like our table and politely asked the waiter if we could switch, but were told it wasn’t possible. This policy felt unnecessarily rigid, especially for a hotel that otherwise feels so welcoming and accommodating.

Overall, this is a beautiful, family-oriented hotel with excellent amenities and incredible mountain views. If the restaurant seating policy were more flexible, it would have been more enjoyable.

Pros:

Diese Unterkunft ist wirklich etwas Besonderes und hat unseren Urlaub unvergesslich gemacht. Schon beim Check-in an der Rezeption waren wir von einem Wow-Effekt begeistert. Das Zimmer, die Sauberkeit und die Freundlichkeit des Personals waren erstklassig. Ich schätze es, wenn ein Hotel und seine Betreiber eine Geschichte erzählen können, und genau das spürt man hier. Die harte Arbeit, die in dieses Hotel gesteckt wird, macht es einzigartig.
