When booked, not informed for a charge for the dog. £30 a lot, when the dog was sleeping on the floor. Our past experien
Pros:

The beautiful setting.

Cons:

The shower hose was split and the water came out everywhere, the taps were very tight to turn. The bathroom badly needs updating, lot of mould around and the tiles. The repair job (grouting) near the taps was terrible.

Pleasant experience
Pros:

The leisure facilities were a highlight, I really enjoyed using the swimming pool in the morning, as well as the sauna and steam room. Everything was clean and relaxing, and it was a very pleasant way to start the day. The restaurant service was good, and we had a very enjoyable meal. The young waitress in particular was very attentive and welcoming. Plus I enjoyed a relaxing bath in the evening. Overall, the atmosphere was relaxing, and I enjoyed the time spent using the facilities and unwinding.

Cons:

Reception on arrival could have been a bit friendlier. The restaurant waiter was excellent, but overall service elsewhere was fairly average rather than outstanding. The cocktail I ordered from the menu couldn’t be made due to missing ingredients, and the alternative wasn’t great. The room itself felt a bit tired in places, particularly some of the stained furniture which looked like it could do with refurbishment. We also requested a twin setup, but this wasn’t possible at the time due to lack of extra linen/bedding, which was a little surprising. Overall, it felt a bit less polished than expected given its reputation, though still comfortable enough for a stay.

We still loved it and would definitely return
Pros:

Quiet and peaceful
Great base for Chester and Wales
Leisure facilities and Pool
Spacious Room

Cons:

A few reasons not to have a 4* rating
Electric kettle needed to be operated on the floor due to short wire and low plugs
Room/corridor decor and carpet was worn and tired
Worn and torn material on furniture
Rusty bin in bathroom
Bathroom door and frame needed cleaning

Overall a perfect stay, can't wait to go back again
Pros:

We had a lovely stay and would definitely love to stay again, the spa facilities are fantastic and couldnt be faulted the lockers were always kept clean and the staff in the spa were very helpful and friendly. We loved our room and we had everything we needed in there, all round a perfect stay!

Cons:

We thought the food was a little over priced for what you got, but still very tasty. And the staff in the main reception area and bar terrace could maybe be a bit more attentive.

Pros:

no much

Cons:

A lot.
TV didn't work
The towels were old, ripped, holes in them
Furniture looked as if it had been bought in a car boot sale
Bed as a double, not a King or Queen...as this was a "suite" we would have expected a full size bed
No phone to ring reception
No fridge in the room
Dialled reception from an external line...no answer
Reception booked us a taxi, let it go before we got to reception but could not phone us as we had no phone in the room
breakfast; hot was OK, cold selection is to be avoided, the cheapest of cheap

For £254 a night I would have expected some standards to achieve a minimum, sadly this is a tired and out of date hotel relying on the "Spa" headline in a great location but that's about it.

A nice hotel in a great location with pleasant scenery. Good restaurant and bar food,
Pros:

A great location and the Spa was really nice, very clean and friendly staff. Good parking.

Cons:

The hotel staff were friendly but could have been a little more visible, think there were limited staff available late afternoon and evening, this was mainly the bar staff. Very friendly but the bar wasn't staffed very well, bar staff were kept busy with guest food orders so had to wait some time to be served drinks.
Room was very nice, great shower but would have benefited from draws to put clothing in and a fan for hot weather (it was a very hot weekend).
We reported that we could not use the room room safe as the previous guest had obviously locked it and not left it open, we reported this 3 times but was not resolved, just meant we had to carry cash and valuables with us which was not great but didn't spoil the break.

A lovely stay in a stunning historic hotel with beautiful grounds, friendly staff and spacious clean
Pros:

The hotel itself is absolutely stunning — such a beautiful historic building with picturesque grounds and a fantastic location. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and all the staff we encountered were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit.

Cons:

The shower hose in the bath/shower was quite short, which made showering awkward for my partner who is 5'11".We also had to hunt around for the second set of towels, which were stored in the wardrobe. The tea and coffee facilities were a little limited too — there were only 2 sachets of regular coffee, 3 decaf, and 4 small milk portions, which realistically only made enough for one drink each.

Quite basic, but nice spa
Pros:

The pool was nice, but way too hot. Jacuzzi was intermittently working, but it was nice to have access to the sauna and other facilities. The bathroom was large, and so were the rooms, but poorly furnished. Breakfast was full, and ok.

Cons:

Not quite 4-star as promised. Furniture was basic flatpack, no sofa, just chairs in the large rooms, no showergel, no robes or slippers, standard kettle and mugs...and no biscuits or room welcome! The building layout was a not-well-signposted maze! The reception staff were nice but clearly inexperienced.

A cold, disappointing stay
Pros:

The room was spacious and clean.

Cons:

The heating did not work and it was 3° outside and the room was very cold.
There was a small electric heater in the room that went on and off intermittently. As the ceilings were high it barely warmed the room.
The duvet on the bed was thin so I was cold throughout the night.

There was no 'Do not Disturb ' sign to put on the door and as I was there on my own it made me anxious that a cleaner might come in when I was in the shower.
I was going to report all this to reception when I handed my keys in but the receptionist was on the phone and barely acknowledged me.
For the price I paid for the room. I would have expected the central heating to be working.
I notice that other people have mentioned the lack of heating in their reviews, so this isn't a one off situation.

Not good enough for a 4* hotel. Very disappointed.
Pros:

Room - very quiet, good size for single occupancy. bed comfortable but perhaps a little soft for me
Staff - reception desk were quite pleasant
Surroundings - nice environment but perhaps starting to show signs of tiredness (decoration and carpets)

Cons:

Room - no plug in handbasin, stain on wallpaper which seemed to be due to water ingress
Breakfast - no better than average. not particularly good quality produce
Terrace bar - I ordered my food and a bottle of wine. Food was ordered but wine wasn't, as the bar man had to check if it was available. By the time he returned to me having served a number of other patrons (it was fairly busy) I had eaten my food. I wasn't offered any utensils or sauces - fortunately it was burger and chips so I managed without. Wine was not available, which he should have known at the time of me ordering. I ordered another (different) bottle of white wine which was obviously not chilled. The barman did not know how to open the bottle using a corkscrew - he and another barman that had suddenly appeared had a laugh about it and eventually served it to me. I asked the 1st barman if he had been trained to use a corkscrew to he said "no, and I've been here 6 weeks". The barman was really busy taking orders, serving drinks and serving food to tables when ready. I don't blame him, I blame the management for poor training and understaffing on a Saturday evening.
I had known the hotel and the owners back in 1985 when it was last developed and just wanted to visit again to see how good it was. I only had a one night stay so there wasn't much chance for them to impress. The room was quite comfortable, the breakfast was just ok, but the evening in the Terrace Bar was a shambles and needs a great deal of improvement. For a **** hotel it just wasn't good enough
