The bedding was great quality and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Food in the bar was pleasant and the lawns are lovely.
I had booked a junior suite. The first one I was checked into was dirty, dingey and smelled of black mold. The reception staff were nice about it and gave me an alternative room when I asked. Also the changing rooms at the pool were very small and very grubby - not at all a spa feel.
Breakfast was very good although some of the continental needed replenishing towards the end of breakfast window.
The family swimming times could be amended without inconveniencing adults too much. If it was 4-7pm family swim that would give more options for families to plan a day around using the pool as well. Our day out to the zoo didn’t allow for a swim session as well.
Swimming pool
Specific and restricted time for children in swimming pool
Lovely grounds and fantastically spacious room. Great location for visiting Chester Zoo.
Booked partly due to pool option, it’s a shame it’s not complimentary for hotel guests.
Free parking.
Many areas were tired (dirty carpets, stained mattress protectors, broken room heaters, black/mould in bathrooms)
Nice bedroom, great sized bath
Tired in some areas
Breakfast was mediocre
Great swimming pool and gym. Comfy bed, good breakfast and dinner.
Could never get through on the phone to speak with reception or reservations.
The building is beautiful and the staff are friendly and helpful. I had a small issue with the room I was in, and asked if they had another. They upgraded me to one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. This was unexpected, and very kind of them. Also, it is easy to get into Chester on the bus, which stops just outside the driveway to the hotel. This means you can enjoy yourself without having to drive or find parking.
The bar menu is often limited because they are out of supplies. This has happed both times we have stayed, so keeping stocked up to prevent this would be a good idea.
Lovely location, lovely big room
Food was good when we got it, breakfast was excellent
The room was cold, provided with a plug in heater but no heating in bathroom which was freezing and unable to dry towels so had to get fresh every day. Reported to reception but not resolved despite staying for 3 nights.
Poor organisation in the bar/dining room, long wait for food, seemed unsure if able to provide food for our 1 year old! Had to ask for high chair. There were weddings on and this seemed to take priority over regular guests.
Reception staff were not helpful which was disappointing.
This was a special break for my son after a rough few months, and was definitely on the expensive side, and sadly the experience did not come close to the cost, I have had much more special experiences in Chester for half the cost so I am very disappointed and feel let down.
Overall a great experience and nice room
Fried eggs were bit on the cold side but the rest of the breakfast was superb.
Bed comfort excellent, location great for Chester, swimming and spa facilities great.
Staff did the job but impersonal, the hotel room had peeling wall paper and did not live up to expectations as a superior room. The Restaraunt had no atmosphere, tables laid out like a canteen. No table cloths, all this disappointing
nice bed. nice bathroom
Breakfast selection disappointing. barely any fruit or pastries. very basic english breakfast.
Restaurant carpet dirty.
changing rooms in spa needed hoovering. no capacity to book treatments during stay despite being a guest.
Having paid more to have luxury spa hotel, felt cheated.
Nice gym and pool.
Free parking, location and nice breakfast.
Spacecious family room.
Reception area like Fawlty Towers.
Dated and tatty.
Very limited swimming times for children.
Bathroom disgusting and full of moult.
The location is great
A lot of issues with the room the breakfast the bed and spa the changing facilities were terrible every locker broken broken sink in hotel room stains on the bed cigarettes all over the balcony breakfast was atrocious over cooked or undercooked and tastes disgusting
