One and Done: Never Staying at Moxy Again
Pros:

I've thought carefully about what features of our recent, disappointing first stay at a Moxy are due to our incompatibility with the brand and what are due to management and staff issues. As background, I am a Lifetime Platinum Marriott member, having had the opportunity to stay at a few Marriott brands for work and pleasure through the decades. Additionally, we are seniors unswayed by a hot pink room hair dryer -- not Moxy's target demographic. This was our first Moxy stay and we will not stay at another.

Brand Issues For Us:
-Excessively small, cramped rooms. We each had two suitcases, due to a multiple city trip. Moxy solely offers hooks on the wall -- no closet, chest or other storage either in the room or bathroom. The hostel-like room size, combined with our baggage, was unbearable.
-No desk.
-No in-room coffee.
-Food offered in the bar/restaurant substandard and appears geared to those molded by DoorDash.
-Room decor reminiscent of mostly useless furniture found at the Swap Shop at our county dump. When I pulled out the stool under the bathroom sink to sit while putting on make-up, I burst out laughing when I, a tall woman, was unable to see myself in the mirror.
-Poor lighting, especially in the bathroom where it matters for getting ready.
-Guests required to purchase voucher, aka Destination Fee, used at the bar/restaurant or grab and go station, that makes guests hostage to Moxy's undesirable food -- while Boston's Theater District and its variety of restaurants begins literally across the street.
-No prices on bar/restaurant menu or grab and go products to help guests strategize purchases.
-No complimentary breakfast for Marriott Elite members -- just the mandatory Destination Fee voucher purchased in addition to room.

Negative Issues Specific to Boston's Moxy Location and Staff:
-No acknowledgement of Elite Status or opportunity to play the "Wheel of Fortune" game for a bonus gift provided upon check in.
-Toilet in room not fully cleaned; visible debris between lid and tank
-Late start time of record for morning coffee service in lobby (6:30 am), especially given the lack of in room coffee.
-When I waited politely at the lobby coffee station at 6:45 am for a staff person to set up coffee, he curtly told me that "breakfast begins at 7:00." I wanted coffee, not breakfast.
-No cardboard finger/hand guards at lobby coffee station.
-Street noise can impair the sleep quality of light sleepers.
-The river location purportedly seen from our "River View" room on the 23rd floor was a mystery. When I asked a staff person, she said that every room on the 18th floor and above is advertised as a River View room and that I needed to look carefully out of the far left side of our window.

My take is that the most suitable guests for Moxy Boston are those staying one night after attending a theater performance, using a small airline carry on bag alone.

Positive Issues Related to Moxy Boston Location:
-Upon checkout, when asked I mentioned some of these issues to Julio Portillo, the Front Office Director. He was extremely responsive and congenial, representing Marriott very well.
-The location itself is very good, adjacent to the Theater District and Chinatown, and within easy walking distance to Boston Commons and the Freedom Trail.

Great staff and an excellent location! Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Boston. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend the Moxy Downtown Boston.

Cons:

Rooms are a tad small - bedside tables are tiny, no where to put your clothes, no safes.

Moxy in Boston
Pros:

Such a fun place! We loved everything about it. We got into Boston early they were able to let us in our room early - the desk staff were ALL friendly and helpful. The room was great - not big but we didn't need that. They had board games and snacks and drinks on the second floor with music / bar vibe. We were able to walk all over Boston from there. Only sad thing they have a roof top bar - but it was booked for a private party so we were not able to see the view of Boston from there. Highly Recommend !!!

Nice clean modern hotel for city break
Pros:

Lovely staff and very helpful but not pushy. Good for a quick basic breakfast. They had entertainment in the bar which was very good. Rooms clean but quite basic but very adequate. Funky modern style hotel. Felt a bit unsafe at night in general location.

Cons:

Not much storage in room. Seemed expensive but maybe that’s just Boston or due to World Cup. Over $400 per night with tax basic double.
