It was a most enjoyable stay at the White Swan Hotel and be part of historic memories of Guangzhou.
Pros:

I stayed in the hotel 20 years ago and now , after major renovations in 2013, the property is beautiful , just as nice if not better. Hotel staffs are well mannered and always eager to help.

Cons:

Service at the dim sum restaurant could be improved. Staff are not well trained and took them a long time to deliver food.

Das Hotel hat gegenüber dem Vorjahr etwas an Qualität verloren.
Pros:

Die Lage ist absolut perfekt.
Die Zimmer zu 60 m2 sind es wert. Sehr angenehm. Man fühlt sich in den Zimmer perfekt aufgehoben.

Cons:

Es sind Kleinigkeiten:
1) Die Frotteetücher sind von minderer Qualität. Sie saugen die Feuchtigkeit nicht auf. Man erhält das Gefühl, sich mit einem nassen Tuch abzutrocknen.
2) Wenn das Hotel sein Niveau hoch halten will, dann sind die Bade/Zimmerschlappen im Frühstücksraum ein No-Go.
3) Der Empfang im Frühstücksrestaurant ist top, wenn man direkt zu einem freien Tisch geleitet wird und nach dem Getränk gefragt wird. Wenn man anschliessend jedoch über 10 Minuten darauf warten muss, ist es ein Flop.

I would say overall is good except their breakfast. During my 5 nights stay, every single morning, the breakfast is exactly the same. They could have put more efforts in improving it. Luckily, I am not a fussy eater.

A wonderful peaceful oasis in the middle of a brilliant but totally bonkers city
Pros:

The view from the bedroom window was breathtaking. It is worth paying for a river view.

Cons:

Nothing. The hotel was outstanding. A warning to travellers however. We got scammed by a rogue taxi driver on our journey from the airport to the hotel.

Pros:

View is good if you manage to get river view. Lobby looks impressive with a huge pickup area and a doorman holding the door for you.

Cons:

Not worth the price. Its probably a 5 star hotel back then but they probably only renovated the outside of the hotel and lobby but didn't update the rooms. Outside looks upscale and impressive but the rooms are old. Shower is moldy, outdated and diffcult to use and stoll uses a shower curtain. It had a tall bathtub cum shower stall, and difficult to step in and possible slip risk. They should have stated that in their description as it was not suitable for elderly at all. Hotel sink only provides hand soap, no liquid soap which was a shocker.
Mattress was hard like spring bed. One of our bed was sunken in giving us backaches. Soundproofing lousy as I can hear people talking outside with door closed. I did not like the bathroom window becoming transparent and curtains opening once you insert the power card, we have to close it everytime we come back.
Location was inconvenient and can get congested easily during peak hours. Suggest staying there for 1 day only if you are exploring shamian island.
Only plus point is the hotel service and staff was very helpful.
