We stayed in this hotel because it was part of our 2 day 1 night trek to Machu Picchu. It was allegedly a 3 star hotel but the standard was well below other 3 star hotels we stayed in in Peru. The whole hotel was really basic and minimalist without any real comforts and felt like a hostel. After the day trekking up to Machu Picchu it wasn’t the oasis of comfort we hoped to arrive at.
Our room was very small and looked out onto the road and train track. Luckily the trains stopped early and we actually found it very quiet and easy to sleep. The room and bathroom were clean but very basic and small. The amenities consisted of two small bars of soap and two small sachets of shampoo. There weren’t sufficient towels when we arrived but on asking at reception they sent up more straightaway. The fixed hairdryer in the bathroom didn’t work but again on asking at reception they produced another hairdryer straight away. The room felt slightly damp the whole time and the towels didn’t dry overnight. The shower worked well and was nice and hot.
The sound proofing in the rooms was not up to the standards of other hotels we stayed in, we could hear hairdryers and showers being used.
The breakfast was pretty basic; bread, cheese and jams were put on your table and they cooked you eggs if you wished. There was also some fruit and yoghurt as well as orange juice.
The staff and owners were all very friendly and I suppose the main issue for us is that we are used to better rooms and facilities. We looked longingly at the Casa Andina Standard hotel along the road which is also a 3 star hotel but looked so much nicer.
A simple 3-star hotel operated by a kind family. They treat you like family. The breakfast is simple but delicious. Rooms are simple, but clean. Beds are firm, but not over the top. They did our laundry for a small fee, offered extra water bottles each day, and had great advice. There was a small challenge with the hot water on day 1 and they were apologetic and kindly gave us free drink coupons at a great local restaurant. Really nice home-away-from-home feel. The river views from some of the guest rooms and the breakfast room are epic. Close to the train and bus stations. Highly recommend!
This was well recommended by the agent. It is an adequate overnight stop but I would not recommend more. One side is on the train platform so noisy trains and building shake ! The other side is on the river which this time of year is VERY LOUD. The rooms are compact with minimal extras. The (satellite) TV did not work. We were told it was because of the weather but the one in reception was working fine. The breakfast starts at 0500, good for the sunrise trip to Machu Piccu but is very minimal. Only hot is scrambled eggs. Stale bread rolls with 2 slices of processed ham and 2 of cheese between two. They had decaf coffee👍 and freshly squeezed quite sour orange juice. There is only table service, no buffet and no cereals. No AC but wasn’t needed.
Warning! Do not book at this hotel through external providers like Expedia, Booking, etc. These platforms offer lower prices, and upon arrival at the hotel, they don't assign the room as described, and they don't include services like breakfast, which was also supposed to be included. The hotel staff claims that the price is too low and that we should get a worse room. They also mention that they've had problems with these platforms before. The hotel management laughs in your face. The worst experience in South America.
Nice place and nice view from my room. Very clean
Quick stay for Machu Picchu! Check in was easy and our room was available early. They gave us the wrong room at first but quickly fixed and put us in a room with a river view. Breakfast was wonderful and location was wonderful. Staff was super nice and helpful. They held our bags in a safe room while we adventured our last day.
Great location overlooking the river, amazing views and a clean, comfortable room. The hotel is very close to where the train drops you off. Friendliest, most helpful front desk person I have ever encountered. I asked the front desk man, Willie, for directions to the office where I could buy a bus ticket to Machu Picchu and if he could recommend a guide. Willie actually walked us to the ticket office and recommended an excellent guide. The room was a good deal for the price and the included breakfast was delicious. I will stay here next time I come to town.
Love the room view ti the river and the breakfast, delicious! For one night is perfect.
The breakfast is great !! And also the services
Our stay at the hotel was decent. It is very basic with a need for some fixes and renovation, but it works fine for a short night before visiting Machu Picchu. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good and starts early. You can also leave your bag for the day as you visit Machu Picchu.
Breakfast staff was great. Very attentive and friendly.
Good quite position facing the river
Nice location.Beatiful view and friendly staff. I loved this place.
I didnt like the way they scanned all out passports , what was the reason they needed to scan all of them?
This was a great location and easy to stay at to visit machu picchu, the walls are thin and its a bit loud but didn't bother us too bad for the one night
Good for short stay. Clean and nice staff..
The downside.. is the hotel is the last hotel and also in front of the railroad.. sometimes you can hear the train. We got the first room in front of the stairs so we could hear everything..
The breakfast salon had a great view but with a lot of flies.. (this Could br addressed with candles or other type of product)..
The property is a basic room with a small bathroom. It has great views of the river and a great location. It is perfect for a night but it is not a longer term hotel for me. It is not an updated facility and very dated. It is also next to the train tracks and you will hear the trains all day and night. It didn’t prevent us from sleeping well though.
Good location. It has a nice view of the river.
I wanted to love this inn. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. the location was great. the rate was even greater. they had some of the best breakfasts we had in this trip (everything made to order. and i loved their bread which actually smelled like bread). However, our room had no A/C (none of their rooms has) and we couldn't open the window because there's no window screen. They told us not to open the window because mosquitos would come in. so for two nights, we stayed inside a room with no fresh air. I survived the first night but i started to develop cough on the second night and the next morning I got up with terrible sore throat, coughs and minor headache. (btw, the lady was nice enough to lend me an electric fan but it didnt help much because there's no fresh air). Fortunately, it was after we went to Machu Picchu but because of the sickness, when I traveled back from Aguas Calientes to Cusco, I experienced some minor altitude sickness symptoms like short of breath and headache despite the fact that I took the medicine already. Being sick, I wasn't able to enjoy Cusco and Lima as much as I expected. And it's not just me, two of my friends who stayed in another room also got sick after the second night of the stay. I am actually good with no AC but at least install window screens. this way we can have fresh air while keeping the flying insects out. i hope i have listed all the pros and cons and let people decide. but i would definitely NOT recommend it.
This small, family-run hotel offers good service in an excellent location. The complimentary breakfast is delicious and comes with a fantastic view.
However, our room, situated near the staircase, was quite noisy until late in the evening, and we were also disturbed by the sound of running water from a drainage pipe running through the room. No ventilation or fan in the room; Overall, I would rate it 3 out of 5.
