This hotel was a typical Dutch rowhouse,we felt we experienced Dutch culture.
Pros:

Great place to stay in one room for 3 Canadian sisters. Comfortable beds and clean room. Helpful and friendly staff!

Attentive staff
Pros:

Very comfortable bed and nice linen. Pod coffee machine was welcome and breakfast had a good variety.

Cons:

We arrived around 9pm during a cold snap and our rooms window was open, hail entered our room as shown in the photo added. The heater was not working and the room was very cold. The night desk attendant was very helpful finding us an extra duvet to use and the next day the heater was rectified.
The bathroom is a little dark for my liking although they have tried by including an illuminated vanity mirror. Products were lovely and the shower was good.

Excellent
Pros:

A very pleasant and enjoyable stay. From check in to check out, our interactions with reception, housekeeping and restaurant/bar staff, we were warmly greeted and looked after in a friendly and professional manner. Our room was very comfortable, glorious hot shower, well stocked mini bar and the coffee maker was a bonus. Our view of the tree from 535 was the icing on the cake. Highly recommend Catalonia Vondel.

Expensive but Dilapidated
Pros:

This is one of several hotels in its neighborhood that are close to the main museums and the Concertgebouw. The kitchen and cleaning staff worked hard to make up for a very poorly maintained facility.

Cons:

It cost more than $400/night. The hallway to my room was dilapidated. The doorways had chipped paint. The stairs had torn carpet. The hall carpet and walls had stains. The stairways to other floors are very steep and the steps have shallow treads. If there was a fire and the elevator couldn't be used, they would be challenging. The room I was in was supposed to be an "Executive" room. The wardrobe was assemble-at-home type furniture and had stains on the doors. The other furniture should have been replaced years ago. It was chipped, scraped, and stained. The bathroom sinks were damaged and had old stains.
