I recently stayed at Hotel Shelley from December 16 through December 26, 2025, accompanied by my daughter, and reserved two rooms, specifically rooms 214 and 217.
I am writing to kindly follow up regarding the refund of my security deposit in the amount of $200, which has not yet been credited back to my account. Please be assured that the rooms were vacated in the same condition as when they were provided.
I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter at your earliest convenience. Thank you very much for your attention to this issue.
The location is great and the staff was very kind, but the smell in this hotel was unbearable. The room had a strong sewage odor throughout our entire stay, and the hotel overall felt dirty, including the carpets. Unfortunately, the lobby also had a noticeable bad smell. We were also unable to open the windows because there were no screens, and since we were on the third floor, it felt like a serious fall hazard.
If you are sensitive to odors, I would not recommend staying here. If you’re just looking for a place to sleep and don’t mind issues with cleanliness or smell, this could work, but it was a big downside for us.
Our stay was completely ruined by the bar staff. They were rude and dismissive, and their attitude turned what should have been a fun night into a really unpleasant experience. One staff member in particular was openly hostile, and when we raised the issue, the manager was rude and condescending rather than helpful. Extremely disappointing service and not what you expect from a hotel. I would not recommend staying here.
I have checked in the hotel on 12th November untill 15th November, for work purpose ,
I am from India and I am a world traveler, I have been around the world , and been stayed with so many different hotel brands ,
I stayed there without any options as it was booked by my company, when I checked it even though my room was paid , and I had paid the extra tax there scamming, without any clarification or invoice for the taxes , still I couldn't get into my room for 3 hours , coz they don't accept the cash as a deposit.
The room was very old and bad odore , after 3 hours waiting when I checked it, shower wasn't working neither the hot water , I had to change room , after all night long people were fighting and screaming, like a horror movie after informing the reception several time .
Not to forget I stayed in hotel by paying extra 35 usd per night forcefully, after paid 100 USD per night as a room rent .i have to walk to a different hotel every single morning to have a coffee , which I paid for .
After checked out I have been requesting my invoice which I had paid for , no response yet .
I'm 35 and been so many countries with different hotels and Airbnb this is one of the worse hotel in my whole life .
Not bad for a motel.
Reception needs to improve and be more hospitable. They also need to allow previous, past, and present customers to use the restroom when necessary. You don't want to be the cause of someone having to go potty and because no one would let him or her go, they had a normal potty accident. Not to be confused with incontinence because there is a difference. It's like a teacher not allowing their students to go potty, sooner or later they have to go. Management and receptionist at the Shelley are both to blame as well as Chesterfield.
This is a motel and their prices fluctuate between $50 to more than a $100. Too much.
I like the location. And staff were very friendly. But the door locked. Did not work for the first. Some of the outlets doesn’t work.
Nice
The stay was okay. the best part is definitely the location, since it’s close to everything in South Beach. However, there were some major downsides. We were surprised with an undisclosed $35/day “resort fee,” even though there weren’t any real amenities offered. The hotel only has one microwave, and it’s in the lobby. The front desk staff seemed indifferent and not very helpful, but I will say the cleaning staff was extremely kind and attentive.
Overall, I’d say you get what you pay for, but with the extra $35/day tacked on, the cost for four days ends up being about what you’d pay for a nicer hotel right on Ocean Drive.
CLEAN CLOSE TO EVERYTHING
Love everything about this hotel
CONS: Add $35+ per night resort fee (they don’t tell you till you check in then it’s too late. For what? I don’t know they don’t have a pool or anything- they say for wifi (lol) everyone has wifi and for towels … it’s just wrong. They say they have a sister hotel pool but it’s like super far away need to take uber to get there didn’t go better to just walk to beach. The carpet in stairs in old and dirty and no elevator so you will need to haul your luggage up 3 + flights of stairs , got a double bed room the mattress are sinking on each side on both mattress I don’t even want to see what they look like and how much DNA is prob soaked up in them .. I got bit by little bugs not sure what they are but even though I’ll mention some pros I won’t stay here again it’s just not worth it spend a tiny bit more and get a better hotel. PROs : Location is nice , near Beach and 7-11 and the cleaning ladies are nice : front staff are ok . That’s about it . They will write a response to this as we are sad or we are sorry it’s bull s()it they aren’t sorry they cut and paste it they aren’t going to fix anything t GET RID of the Resort FEE if you are sorry or sad about my comment . Your Hotel is no resort has nothing with the $35+ per night you are just robbing people greed will be your downfall . PASS on this HOTEL
Rooms very outdated and small not worth the money I spent to stay there. Would recommend anyone staying there.
This was a great hotel for nights around a cruise for anyone wanting to stay in South Beach. It was quaint and comfortable, and we could walk to many wonderful restaurants and to the water. Be aware that there are no elevators or staff to help carry luggage to the higher floors. I would select to stay at a hotel near the airport with a free transport service to the cruise ship next trip, but I highly recommend the great experience of staying at the Shelley at least once!
I liked it just didn’t have a pool
Dirty
We booked through last minute. com. Never had a problem using their site or any other for that matter. Get to the hotel- it’s an extra $150 resort charge for 5 days. When I ask what this is about- they say cleaning etc and to take it up with the website. Not the best start. They then want me to sign a contract- with a list of T&Cs. Yeah no problem (more charges on this sheet in the event of anything going on). We walk in, the carpets are stained, the decor is dated, the room is tiny. We are told they have housekeeping daily (I should hope so at an additional $30 a day). The plug socket in our room is wonky and badly fitting, another is slightly pushed in, our room has the view of a peeling outside wall. Then the bathroom- it reminds me of a 1 star in the Canneries in the late 90s. Old, stained tiles everywhere. But at least there are loads of soaps and shampoos, However I get a moment of panic. I’m sure somewhere in that contract there’s a $27 charge if you use too much? I can’t be sure- after 12 hours travelling to be faced with the T&Cs right out of the gate- I’m not sure I digested it properly… oh and then the ‘cable’ … there are about three working channels. Definitely not as advertised- am not sure what we will be watching on that. Honestly I can urge all travellers to give the place a wide berth. Over priced, dated and a hundred percent somewhere you don’t want to spend any vacation time. Just a heads up- this hotel also blames all websites for their miss charging with a big list of ‘unsanctioned’ websites on their own page. This is a first for me… hopefully a last… a resounding no!!!
Pet friendly? Yes, pet friendly but I had to pay extra $171.00 dollars for 5 nights in my check in. Adding to this that my room hadn’t curtains. Only blinds and the sunlight came through to your bedroom.
The only thing good that I could say is the hotel location and small refrigerator that in my room was placed
Enjoyed my stay .
Fast easy checkin/out. Front Desk staff was great. 9/10 highly recommended and will stay again. Only dislike is there is no luggage storage. Great location, 1 block from beach.
This property is very small and the rooms are very small and not completely clean. There is noise at night. On top of that, apart from the reservation on Expedia, the hotel charges 34.2 per day per room.
