I stayed at the hotel for business reasons and so did not have time to utilise the spa facilities and cannot comment on those. The room was excellent, shower hot and with good water pressure. The inclusion of a bath is always very nice after a hard day. The bed was very comfortable, clean and smelled freshly aired. The heating was very responsive which was good. The room service food was good and quickly delivered.
My critiques would be that breakfast started too late for me on the weekend and so only enjoyed the breakfast once on the Monday, but the freshly prepared food was excellent. The second issue I had was the poor flush of the toilet, so that would need some improving.
The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble.
Squeaky floorboards at night. Car park at the front became very busy at times.
Quietness at night,
Spa not packed out general a calm experience.
The room was nice,
Bathroom well stocked and very clean.
Overall clean house and lovely breakfast.
Everything
Reception staff were lovely, welcome and friendly. Also staff at the spa reception were lovely too.
Breakfast in morning was slow service, staffing issues seemed to be the problem, new staff & temporary manager. The 2 young ladies who served eventually us were lovely, polite and accommodating. The breakfast was ok had to wait awhile, bacon overcooked, poached eggs perfect 👌🏻. Our room was good, toilet didn't flush well.
We visited Brandshatch for a 2nd time, our last visit was 6-7 years ago and our reason for going back was due to such a great stay first time round.
Unfortunately, this was not the case for our 2nd visit and would now put us off returning in the future. The hotel in most places is very dated and not kept well. It is like there has been no maintenance on it within the timeframe from when we last visited. The rooms are ok (average) I would say. I did not find the bed overly comfortable. Everywhere looks very tired. There also seemed to be a lot of noise/banging around until around 3am and I had such an interrupted nights sleep which was a shame as we had come to celebrate our engagement, leaving 2 young children and a teen with family for the night and sorting childcare for them, getting a dog sitter etc and didn’t come away feeling well rested. After it takes such a lot as parents to organise just a night away, it is really disheartening when your stay is not up to scratch.
We opted to have dinner at the hotel and our breakfast the next morning was included in our stay. We found the food to be very delicious. However, dinner did come out cold and in a restaurant where there was only a few others there at the time this is quite unacceptable. Wine is expensive but I didn’t go for the cheapest option but still £19 for a large glass of French rosè is rather a lot considering I can buy a nice bottle of it for this price. They always add a discretionary 12.5% on your bill, even when you’ve been up to the bar yourself to order the drink. I chose to pay this as the staff were friendly enough but on every bill you pay when you’re going to get drinks yourself, I don’t feel this is ok especially when it’s just expected that you pay it.
Our spa treatments (Full Body Massage) were lovely and we throughly enjoyed these but again I did even notice staining on the wall in the treatment room from what looked like a leak.
It is such a shame as this could be such a lovely hotel (it once was). But it needs some love put back into it and service etc sorted for food.
Including the money spent on food, drinks and the stay itself with treatments it cost us in excess of £600 and we feel we could have stayed somewhere much nicer for this
We won’t be going back ourselves and can understand others reviews and frustrations on here but we wish the hotel the best for the future.
Breakfast was great, especially the sausages really enjoyed. Room was great excellent size. A little disappointed with the Spa as the wife wanted to book some treatments and we hadn't booked prior to our visit (Our fault) and what she wanted wasn't available. Hotel even had an EV charger which was a bonus
Would have liked a walk in shower instead of a bath shower
Our bedroom was very cold NO radiator's only a Air Con Unit which made hissing sound and we needed to switch it on to warm up the room most part of the hotel was very cold. The towel rail was switched ON but did not warm up it was stone cold and bathroom was very cold.
The room itself was very uncomfortable, No extra pillows in the cupboard, the bathroom was very cold could not lift the shower gel or shampoo from the stand? I understand people will steal them so these were screwed down. The showerhead was screwed so you could not pull it away.
Cleanliness
Nothing
Great hotel and spa, extremely friendly staff, very clean, great food.
I liked the quietness of the spa.
The Club Sandwich was exceptional.
The staff were attentive.
The room was clean.
The guests in the room next door were noisy but they seemed to calm down as the night went on.
Finally being given the room l booked.
The reception manager taking me to a very small and horrible little room, when I was expecting to be taken to room four, the one l had booked. It was some time before I did get to room four,it really spoilt the beginning of my stay at the hotel.
The room has no way to separate the bedside lights from the main bedroom lights. So you have to either sleep with all the lights on, or all, including bedside lights, off. There is only one switch on one side of the bed to turn them all on. So, if you need to get up in the night, you have to wake your partner to turn all the room lights on. There are no charging points by the bed either so if charging a phone, you can’t use that as a torch. This is basic. Consequentially, no sleep for either of us as we don’t sleep well in a room with all the lights on. It’s a really stupid and badly thought through lighting / plug in system.
Locality, the spa and gym facilities. Dinner and breakfast were lovely
At dinner the service was very slow over 2 hours for a two course meal. Our room at the mews was not as comfortable as the rooms in the main building where our friends were. It was cold just air con heater.
It could be really nice, with some attention and new styling
UNDERSTAFFED! They tried hard. But over 2.5 hours in a restaurant without even being offered water! A total joke.
The bar girl needs to go. She wasn’t remotely qualified to be there
