Pros:

This is a solid choice for a hotel in Chiang Mai. Located just north old city, the hotel provides free shuttles to all the markets in the area as well as a reasonably priced shuttle to the airport. Nice breakfast, nice pool, all for an affordable price. I was very happy with my stay here.

Are we talking about the same hotel?
Pros:

As a regular guest of the Mercure I was stunned to read the most recent review. I must say the review does not match my very positive experiences of the hotel, its management and the staff. I have hot water and use the wi-fi to back up my iPad and phone without difficulty. If there are difficulties with anything, the hotel responds quickly and effectively. For example, I witnessed the testing of the modems and wi-fi setup, following a customer complaint in April. (The system was working). The most disappointing comments of the review were those on the staff. In all my time at the hotel, I have seen the staff always striving to meet the needs of the customers. They take pride in doing their job well. Many times I have seen them go beyond the call of duty. During the Chiang Rai floods the management and staff organised a trip to Chiang Rai to offer material and show their personal support to the hundreds of households which were underwater. In other words, these people care about others. They care about their community and about their customers.

An Unforgivable Collapse of Service – This Hotel Should Be Reconsidered by Accor
Pros:

As a Platinum member of the Accor loyalty program, I chose Mercure Chiang Mai expecting a stay reflective of the brand’s global standards. What I got instead was one of the most insulting, dismissive, and utterly incompetent hotel experiences I’ve ever endured—and I travel extensively, staying in dozens of Accor properties every year.

Over a six-night stay, I had no hot water for three days. This happened during Songkran, when guests return to their rooms freezing, soaked, and exhausted—and the best this hotel could offer was lukewarm water that wouldn’t steam a mirror, let alone warm a human being.

On top of that, Wi-Fi was completely non-functional on any mobile device for the entire duration. Both myself and my partner had to pay for our own internet access because the hotel offered no resolution, no assistance, and no follow-up. That’s right—a four-star hotel, offering zero actual connectivity in 2025.

And the staff? A masterclass in apathy. The Duty Manager and Front Office Manager stared at me in silence as I voiced concerns—like mannequins trained to blink but not speak. No solutions, no urgency, no empathy. When the General Manager returned, instead of addressing the serious failures, she launched into a speech about how great the hotel is and how wonderful her staff are. It felt more like I was offending her friends than lodging a legitimate, well-documented complaint.

To top it off, they offered a token gesture: 2 free nights. Out of 6. After half the stay was wrecked. After I had to self-fund services they were obligated to provide. After enduring silent treatment from supposed professionals who clearly don’t care.

Mercure Chiang Mai doesn’t just miss the mark—it rips the whole target off the wall. If you value basic comfort, guest service, or being treated like a human being, do yourself a favor and book literally anywhere else.

Accor needs to take a long, hard look at this property and ask whether it reflects their values. Because I can tell you from experience—it doesn’t.

Rude staff and unhygienic stay
Pros:

The washrooms and services were dirtiest I have seen in any rated hotel. Just not Mercure level. Don’t go by cheap rate, the rooms are cheaper in quality and service is worst.
The manager Sirawan/Sitawan is worst person to complain, she doesn’t care and carries ego. Stay away from this hotel because of her .

Warmest welcome and service.
Pros:

The building is quite old but gold. The location is great, the room is clean, and the staffs were very helpful. Will be staying here again once I visit Chiang Mai again.

Affordable and comfortable but outdated
Pros:

Pros:
-Comfortable beds
-Good location
-Affordable rate
- I couldn't hear road traffic

Cons:
-Outdated decor
-Thin walls. You can here everything!
-TV only has Thai channels
-No key cards so have to manually lock room

I needed a place to crash and relax for 2 days. So it served its purpose.

In urgent need of renovation
Pros:

One of the worst Mercure Hotels we have stayed at. It is in urgent need to complete renovations. It is an old and tired looking hotel. The fittings are out of date, the wood on the doors is fraying, the walls have been painted over but in places the paint is peeling or bubbling. The hand basin in our room was cracked and someone tried to patch it up with some type of white filler. The grout between the tiles is falling off. The chairs in the room are not comfortable and the table is wobbly. Electrical power points are loose and would not hold a plug. The towels are old and certainly not crispy white but limp grey in colour and feel. The breakfast is one of the worst we have had. The dishes in the Bain Marie are cold and the selection of foods is appalling. Most of the dishes contain pork not catering to people who do not eat pork. The vegetarian section is a joke. There is no cheese in sight and the “fruit juices” are not real fruit juice. The salad buffet is just lettuce and onion. The so called natural yoghurt is sweetened and not natural. In modern times, most hotels have a fitness centre but not here. Overall a poor experience at an Accor property claiming to be a 4 Star hotel.

Sleepless in Chiang Mai
Pros:

I have grown to love Chiang Mai and visit frequently; staying at the Mercure for a few of those times already (which I will add, have been very good experiences before). I would have stayed here more often, but they don't have a gym (there is a private gym nearby which is reasonably priced though) and the pool is not something I like to use too much.

Anyhow, I arrived in town after a long flight and was keen on getting some rest. I didn't recognise anyone at the front desk, so I made an attempt to explain to them that I'm a regular in hopes of trying to expediate the check in process, but they seemed to insist on going through everything with me again (not really a big deal).

The room I got was smaller than usual, which is fine (the rooms were already too big just for myself anyway). The thing with the room this time though, is that it is one of those with a door that can be opened up to access the neighboring room. Housekeeping kept banging against it with the vacuum cleaner which left me unable to rest that afternoon when I arrived.

I was still taking work meetings during this visit and, because of the time difference with back home, I had to wake up early. So I can plan around housekeeping, I had come down to the front desk to just enquire about what time of the day I can expect them to reach my room. This seemed to have led to some misunderstanding, since they started leaving my room to much later in the afternoon. Which coincided with when I would finish work and will try to rest up before heading out into town. My attempts in explaining to them that I just wanted my room cleaned in the morning seemed to just make it worst (even leaving the door sign out to clean the room didn't change anything). One instance when there was a knock at the door, I was actually overjoyed thinking it was housekeeping finally, but instead was greeted by someone with another plate of fruit! I just wanted my room made!

Some other things, power outlet by the study was broken; The Citrus restaurant staff still had a bit of trouble with collecting my orders (partly my fault I guess, since back home we call french fries, chips which might have led to some confusion). The chicken steak is still dry, but at least the pork chop was an improvement from the last time.

AccorPlus benefits at the Mercure Chiangmai
Pros:

1st stay here at the Mercure Chiangmai and booked 4 rooms under my AccorPlus Platinum. Deluxe rooms are spacious, and the buffet breakfast is a good spread of Thai and International dishes.

Convenient location, and there's a TOPS supermarket besides the hotel. GOGO Bikes rental is also available at the open carpark (see photos).

Pros:

This hotel is good. It looks like it is from the 1970s. We had some issues with the housekeeping staff not restocking our room (particularly towels). The front desk staff were very helpful.

Okay, but...
Pros:

I have stayed here before and often come to eat at the citrus restaurant here when I need to stay at other hotels. The place is a little run down, but the reason I come back was because of the wonderful people there. When I last dropped by in May 3 months ago, everyone was still there; I know staff come and go, but I was still a little sad that there was no-one there I recognised during my recent stay.

Like most Accor hotels, they would normally provide a welcome treat like fruit or sweets or biscuits or nuts (last time Mercure Chiang Mai went even further with a little soft elephant toy), but they didn't have any of that this time.

The chicken or pork steak I normally get from Citrus was dry as well. Not sure if the kitchen staff was changed as well. The wait staff was all changed though. Since they weren't the regular staff that knew my order already, they did struggle a little bit with it.

Better than expected!
Pros:

My first impression of this place was that all the staff were full of smiles and greetings.

The second impression was that I was upgraded to a deluxe room because there was a conference group staying at the same time. The room was clean and reasonably priced for what I paid. When I made the booking, it didn't include breakfast because I had early morning tours every day, so I opted to buy sandwiches instead. However, on the last day, I had the chance to try breakfast at the hotel, and it was definitely worth it, priced at only 168 thb/person. I had a conversation with the couple at the next table, and it turned out they weren't staying at the hotel but lived in a nearby condo. They chose to have breakfast here almost every day because it was such a good value.

I plan to come back again in December and will definitely choose to stay here again.

Wouldn’t stay here again
Pros:

Overall the stay was fine but the room was poorly cleaned and often not cleaned at all because the cleaners came so late in the day. Bathroom had lots of small insects crawling around, surfaces seldom wiped and dirty tea and coffee cups were never taken away. The hotel is also very dated and badly in need of a refurb.

Pros:

In time of the corona everybody have to reduce its demands in case of the services in a hotel but the staff
of Mercure ChiangMai worked still on their higher standards - they were available, present und helpful all the time.
Thanks for that.
