Excellent location & room, mediocre breakfast

The location of this hotel is superb - just one block from the Magnificent Mile

The room was clean and spacious. No complaints at all. I wish it had a microwave, but this is a minor inconvenience.

The free breakfast was mediocre. Poor selection, no fruits, often just 1-2 yogurt options, typical bagels/bread for the 2-star hotels in the US, no fresh pastries, etc. After eating there once, we were eating outside on the following days.

Newly renovated yet still lacking
Pros:

The freshness of the carpets, wall paper, and bath fixtures is appreciated. The front lobby employees were friendly and Courtney is very helpful.

From there on, the irritation grows. First, the free breakfast isn’t worth the price (free). The eggs were hard chunks of bland yellow, the sausage looked boiled, and the bacon was a lump of slices in a pan where a few exterior pieces were half burned while the entirety of the lump's center was translucent raw. Seriously! The layout of the space made everything tight to get around and access seats. Just a poor start of a day.

The rooms were updated as mentioned but it is noteworthy the restrooms are not well ventilated and the ice maker on floor 13 didn’t work.

The room HVAC was an issue for other reviewers and I assumed it was pre-renovation. In our case, it seemed that the system goes into an eco mode overnight where its diligence in holding a room temp takes a break from midnight to 6am. Bed was normal Fairfield /Springhill quality = Eh. Flat pillows or hard pillows, med-firm mattress.

Bottom line: My thought was a lower price for a clean space is probably better than an older yet higher priced property with more amenities. I think I was probably correct.

Fantastic facility and comfortable rooms.

Pros:

I loved how my room was cornered off and I didn’t get any noise disturbances, and the tv had so many streaming options other than old cable so that was great as well!

Cons:

How I was almost charged twice the total price of my stay no matter how many times I tried to explain in a calm matter that I had already pre-payed my stay a week before it was time to actually check in.

A great stay close to Michigan Avenue with a lovely breakfast!
Pros:

The Fairfield was a great stay. The room was clean and nice. The breakfast was lovely with a large variety of choices. I especially liked that it was available from 6-10. Good for early birds and later risers. Helpful, friendly service and you could have your luggage held til later in the day. The location was also very good. Only about a block and a half off Michigan Avenue. Thanks for a great stay!

Cons:

A microwave would have been very nice, but not crucial. There was a small fridge.
