Will certainly be back, the staff, Restaurant (Brazen)and room were top notch - Fantastic Experience
Pros:

The room was very pleasant really enjoyed the corner room with two windows, the room and overall facilities were very clean, the staff were fantastic from cleaning to front desk staff and everyone in between. The Restaurant Brazen was absolutely wonderful - fantastic unique dishes and specials to top notch friendly staff - this was the best experience staying in Banff of many we have done over the years. Bed was also super comfy

Cons:

The central HVAC in the room is a little noisy - you can turn the fan speed down which helps immensely, but at night it proves to be a little on the loud side, but certainly not as obnoxious as other establishments in Banff with the wall mounted units (Canoe was beyond silly for loudness & disruption for this). There are however disposable earplugs provided in the room which are remarkably effective for blocking out any undesired noise. The 2 roof top hot tubs were a little disappointing as they were pretty small and rather old - but they were functional - it would be a real plus if that rooftop are could be updated to be more in line with the rest of the facility.

Never stay again place
Pros:

We will not come again. Parking was simply full. The room was the worst I stayed in. There is a vent right above my head! ..and very thoughtful a pair of ear plugs left on a table for me.. Combine those 2 things and imagine how I slept!!

Great location
Pros:

This old hotel with history as sections to it is in a great location right in the centre of Banff and access to local restaurants and shops is perfect, and if you're a skier or boarder the shuttle stops right at the back of the hotel. The hotel has ski storage and a 2 hot tubs on the roof which we actually didn't use as we noticed no-one had a shower before getting into them even though it states you should! We think that this could maybe be reinforced by reception staff when clients arrive.
The staff here couldn't do enough for us and every request was met by them in a timely manner.
Things that we think are lacking.
1.There are no hooks or shelving for gloves , helmet, wet ski jackets etc and this is also very relevant to people who do other activitirs.such as hiking MTB etc.
2 The lighting in the main room is very poor and hard to see your stuff when daylight has gone.
3. There were not enough options for breakfast for plant based/ vegan diets.
4 Not enough hooks in bathroom to hang robes/ towels etc to dry them after use.
5. You are told to keep ski boots in your room but there is no mat or place to.put them after you come off slopes with snowed up boots thus leaving pool of water and ruining the carpets in the hotel.

These are mearly suggestions to improve the hotel and we actually loved our stay and would highly recommend this place. Beds really comfy and hotel very clean.

Great location, loud at times, needs some renovations.
Pros:

Amazing location! Right in the heart of downtown Banff. Easy access to shopping and restaurants.

Cons:

Several nights we were woken up by loud neighbors partying. Lots of yelling, door slamming, etc. I had to call the front desk to report. Hot tubs need major renovation. Reception staff was less than helpful and friendly.

No way anywhere could be better!!!
Pros:

We did not stay at Mount Royal but when it came time to catch our shuttle to the airport, troubles. This review is because even though we were not customers, the staff went way above and beyond with helping us reschedule transportation, I can only imagine how awesome they would be if we had been paying customers. If there was a way to give them 10 stars I would. Oh how awesome our experience with Mount Royal was.

Great location to walk
Pros:

Location

Cons:

Maid Service was minimal at best, drop off towels was about it. Nothing to make it special, coffee maker was excessively loud and made small cups that were not good. Never vacuumed once while we where there for four days, never filled bath products. Lobby didnt have any extra needs, no coffee, nothing for guess. There is a bar restaurant, and we couldnt get a drink to our rooms cause no staff had time to escort us with our drink to the room, and we where told to come back later so a person could make a good drink. For the money and how big this place is you would hope for anything extra to standout from the others for comfort and experience for the guests. Unfortunately the location is the only thing that stood out and that can be done by many others in that location.

Great!
Pros:

I stayed here in 2022 and really enjoyed it. The rooms are the same, but now the restaurant was fantastic. Went to happy hour and both the food and drinks were some of the best in town. The wait staff also top notch. As was the front desk

Cons:

If you look too close at the tile near the tub, it's missing grout. From far away it looks fine so i see why they didn't address it. The free shuttles to the resorts were not as convenient as before and filled up faster. I saw it as a benefit from staying there before, I don't think it is anymore and I don't think it has anything to do with the hotel anymore.

You’re paying for the location not space and comfort
Pros:

Obviously the location can’t be beat

Cons:

The room was significantly smaller than others I’ve stayed in and those other places were less expensive.

Expected Better
Pros:

I truly belive the only reason this hotel stays busy is its location. Being directly in the middle of Banff Avenue is its sole advantage. If it were anywhere else, I genuinely believe it would struggle to attract guests.

The hotel itself is rundown and poorly maintained. The interior feels like a maze of long, dark, dingy hallways with stained, threadbare carpets and numerous twists and turns that seem to go on forever. The elevators are small, old, and rickety.

To be fair, the front desk staff were pleasant and professional during both check-in and check-out. Unfortunately, this did not offset the condition, accessibility, and maintenance issues throughout the property.

When we required a luggage trolley, we were told to take an elevator at the back of the building. That elevator only got us partway to our rooms. At that point, the remaining route required navigating a flight of rickety stairs, making it impossible to continue with the luggage trolley. We were forced to abandon it and carry our luggage by hand the rest of the way, leaving some bags behind and making multiple trips.

This was especially concerning because we were travelling with a family member who has severe mobility issues.

Originally, we had booked King Heritage rooms, but because the booking mentioned stairs, I called the hotel in advance to confirm accessibility. Based on that call, we were advised to cancel and instead book the Two Queen Suite, which we did, specifically to avoid stairs.

Unfortunately, this advice was incorrect. The suites were in the exact same part of the building. In fact, my daughter, who remained in a Heritage King room, was immediately next door to us. Our mobility-impaired family member still had to navigate stairs, and the handrail was unsafe, with missing screws and so loose we had to physically hold it in place to get them up and down safely.

When I raised this with the front desk, I was told it was “likely an error” by staff and that we could have booked an accessible room, information that did nothing to help us in that moment, after following the hotel’s own advice.

Room quality was also inconsistent. One suite was properly furnished; ours was not. We were missing the electric fireplace in the living area and the table in the bedroom. The bedroom mirror was glued to the wall in a dark, awkward corner, making it impractical to use, particularly when someone exited the bathroom.

The TV in our bedroom was improperly configured, with the image cropped so that the tops of people’s heads were cut off. The remote provided did not allow access to the necessary settings to correct this issue. Additionally, the beds advertised as queen beds were noticeably smaller and consistent with doubles, which was disappointing given the room category and price point.
Additionally, upon pulling back the bedding, we observed what appeared to be a blood stain beneath the top cover, which was not at all enticing and raised concerns about housekeeping standards.

Guests should also be aware that on-site parking is limited. If you are not fortunate enough to secure hotel parking, be prepared to use public parking at $7.00 per hour until 8:00 p.m., and again starting at 8:00 a.m., which adds a significant and unexpected cost to the stay. Accessibility is further limited by the fact that there are only two designated accessible parking stalls for a hotel with 130+ rooms, which is wholly inadequate given the size of the property.

Overall, this hotel feels tired, poorly maintained, and operationally disorganized. The location carries it—not the experience, not the service, and certainly not the condition of the property. For the price, this was deeply disappointing.
