Full of history
We visited Gisborough Hall and took the foodie 2 night break, bed and breakfast both days and included a 3 course dinner on the first night and afternoon tea on the 2nd day. The room was lovely "The Old Nursery" with a great comfy bed and everything you could want. The only thing that left me disappointed was the food. My dinner on the first night was not up to the standard expected. The soup was good but my main let the experiance down....The Carol Nero was presented with the stems! The potato Pommes Anna was quite slimy and cold and not nice to eat and the Guineafowl was OK but the 2 chicken bon bons were dry and again cold. My husband had a steak with chips which was lovely and I had a few of his chips as my potato was uneatable. The desserts were just so sweet ... to sweet.. I ordered granny smith cheese cake and my husband had figgy pudding. The service was excellent from everyone throughtout our stay 👏 but as we're were there to relax I found it very difficult to raise these issues at the time as it would have put a dampener on our experiance. The Afternoon Tea the 2nd day was again too sweet so much so we couldn't eat all the cakes offered but we did love the cheese scones. The breakfasts were nice but my eggs benedict were cool with the hollandaise sauce cold. It was such a shame the food let us down but we did enjoy the hotel but probably won't be back 😕
It is a beautiful building, well decorated staffed my friendly professional staff
I could not find anything I didn’t like
We have stayed at Gisbrough a couple of times before but in the old hall. First time in a Shepherds Hut. We were in Kittiwake (there are 3 huts). The hut was really cosy, lounge are with log burner which was all set up for us, kitchenette with hob, fridge, coffee machine. Tap has boiling water option (wasn’t boiling but a tiny niggle) dining area, bedroom with super comfy bed and a lovely shower room. Outside seating area and hot tub with views over the grounds. The hot tub is wood fired so wasn’t hot until about 5pm. Fabulous meal in Chandler and staff are really good. Breakfast excellent with lots of choice. We even met Lord Gisbrough who said hello. We will definitely return. Just a really lovely stay
We were both in need of some rest and relaxation, so where better to go than to the Gisborough Hall Hotel.
We have stayed here quite a few times now, booking the staycation deal ( dinner, bed and breakfast) . Just what we needed.
We've stayed in the Woodland wing quite a few times now. Very quiet. The rooms are very clean, spacious and comfortable. All the staff are always extremely helpful. Nothing is ever too much trouble
The food in the “Chaloner’s” restaurant is fantastic. Evening meals from a daily set menu. Wonderful choices of beautifully cooked and presented food and the breakfasts are wonderful too, again with a wide choice of dishes. Compliments to the Chefs
We love staying at this beautiful hotel in the lovely surroundings of North Yorkshire. It is our favourite and we will be back again. My Husband loves playing the grand piano there too.
Thank you all at Gisborough Hall Hotel for making our stay so wonderful. Thank you for the lovely “welcome back card” in our room too. Most appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing you all again and seeing the new Sakura SPA too. Can’t wait.
We’ve just returned from the most wonderful stay at Gisborough Hall Hotel, and I can’t praise it highly enough. We stayed in the Pheasant Shepherd’s Hut, which was absolutely stunning — beautifully designed, cosy, and full of thoughtful touches that made it feel truly special.
From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel completely at home. A special thank you to Stacey on reception, who welcomed us with such warmth and made everything effortless. In the restaurant, Hayley, Megan, and Lauren were exceptional. The food itself was absolutely delicious.
The breakfast was a delight, thankyou to Michelle, whose service was superb. I also treated myself to a massage at the spa, and Isabelle was fantastic it was a very relaxing treatment.
Every member of staff we encountered went above and beyond to ensure our stay was peaceful, comfortable, and completely relaxing. It’s rare to find a place where the setting, the service, and the atmosphere all come together so perfectly.
We can’t wait to come back.
The history, and slow pace of the whole experience

Fantastic New Year’s Eve at Gisborough Hall
We spent New Year’s Eve at Gisborough Hall as a party of six and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The rooms were excellent – spacious, comfortable, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere throughout the evening was festive and well organised, making it a really special way to see in the New Year. Staff were friendly, attentive, and professional, ensuring everything ran smoothly. A great balance of elegance and warmth, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have booked again for 2026 NYE and would highly recommend Gisborough Hall for a special occasion.

Our second visit, this time for 4 nights. Simply excellent. Room had everything and the food was superb. Those who served in the restaurant and bar were efficient, helpful and knowledgable Particular mention to Karen and Stacey who sorted out a couple of minor issues quickly and without fuss. The location is quiet and rural yet a short drive brings you to various places of interest. If you stay in the hotel during the day you will find comfortable lounge areas and whilst we were there log fires provided a welcoming feel to an afternoon drink.
Excellent stay in this beautiful hotel which is so full of character and has been carefully restored keeping a lot of the original features. Our room was on the second floor and was large with a good outlook and good bathroom . The thing we loved most about our stay however was the quality of the food . With 2 AA Rosettes we knew we were in for a treat and we weren’t disappointed! The offer in January for half board was very reasonable. Our breakfast was also superb with lots to choose from. The staff were helpful and friendly and made our stay feel very special.
The whole experience was fabulous, the staff are absolutely amazing, attentive, so friendly and helpful making you feel as though you are part of the family. Hotel is emaculate and full of history and artefacts belonging to the family. We had a treatment in the wellness centre which was first class.
Drinks are expensive but to be expected given today’s climate.
We came back for what is, I think, our 5th Burns’ Night. We stayed an extra night, just to enjoy the peace, the ambience, the open fires and sheer comfort. I also spent a Christmas voucher having a facial in the Revival Zone, which was so relaxing, I fell asleep!
Burns’ Night is an institution now at Gisborough Hall and it never fails to be an evening of great food, great entertainment and dancing.
The scene is set as people arrive to the piper traversing the room, playing traditional tunes. Once everyone was seated, the haggis was brought in and addressed in Burns’ own words.
The four course meal was Scottish-themed and the staff did an amazing job, serving everyone politely and efficiently.
The ceilidh is run by a great band with the fiddle player keeping us all on our toes with great humour and patience.
At the end of the evening, there was a disco, where many shoes were kicked off and even the elderly amongst our group were shaping their moves!
Well done to all the team at Gisborough Hall! With luck, we’ll be back next year.
