Great location on the river. Bar and restaraunt very nice and plush. We ate in the bar and the food and service were both very good. The food in the bar was reasonably priced, too.
In terms of our room, it was a decent size and the bed was comfortable.
We paid £288 for B&B, and we're seeking something a bit more upmarket after completing the NC500. However, we would have been better off booking a local business. This is NOT value for money. It is a 3* hotel dressed up as 4*.
Our room overlooked a roof (awful outlook). The bathroom is small and the shower isn't fit for purpose and not what you'd expect from a hotel like this. We went to the gym/pool, but after getting changed, we weren't told you need a £1 coin for the lockers. The receptionist assumed we would know. The breakfast is basic and not worth the amount we paid - you are better off visiting one of the locals shops.
Completely over priced. Staff are great - rooms are in need of modernising for the money they are asking!
Dated rooms
Beautiful hotel and top facilities. The restaurant and bar were very nice, it all had a good ambiance and we felt super welcome. The rooms had a good vibe too, though ours was a bit small (but we took a small room so we knew). The staff was the friendliest I’ve ever experienced and it really made our stay that much more enjoyable.

The dining room was a bit like a cafeteria. Not a pleasant atmosphere in which to dine.
I am extremely disappointed and honestly shocked by how my parents were treated at this hotel.
They arrived at approximately 10:00 PM with a confirmed reservation, only to be told that the hotel was fully booked and that the room they had reserved was not available. Instead, they were placed in a very substandard room that did not even have a private toilet, despite paying approximately CAD $900 per night.
After I contacted the hotel, I was told that I had supposedly booked the “wrong” room and that the room my parents were given was actually considered part of their property. However, there were no photos of this type of room shown when we made the reservation. The room my parents received looked nothing like the standard of accommodation presented online.
In my opinion, this was extremely misleading. If we had been shown accurate photos of this room in advance, including the lack of a private toilet, we would never have agreed to pay approximately $900 per night for it. I will be attaching photos so future guests can see exactly what my parents were given and judge for themselves.
The hotel later adjusted the charge for one night, but that does not change what happened. This review is not about getting a refund or compensation. It is about transparency, honesty, and the expectation that a confirmed reservation should actually provide accommodation consistent with what was advertised.
My parents arrived tired after travelling and were placed in an uncomfortable and stressful situation late at night. For a hotel charging this amount, the entire experience was completely unacceptable.
I strongly recommend that anyone considering this hotel ask for exact photos of the specific room they will receive before booking and confirm exactly where they will be staying.

Lovely riverfront location, easy to park and very friendly people. It’s a historic hotel so not super modern but it was very clean and well maintained.

Usual problem faced by hotels with EV chargers where they are all blocked by combustion engine cars with an I’m alright Jack attitude and parked all night
